Kevin Trudeau was in the crowd watching the Mosconi Cup

Kevin Trudeau was in the crowd watching the Mosconi Cup and they put the camera directly on him for about 10 seconds. When they did this Kim Davenport who was comentating at the time said ' There is Kevin Trudeau founder of the IPT' and Jim Whytch Replied 'yeah he is a big fan of pool'.

I bet Matchroom were not to happy about that but then Kim is now on the IPT gravy train. You have to admire the man (KT) just by sitting in the crowd he gets the IPT mentioned on worldwide TV. I was watching in Ireland.

Any thoughts ?

My first thought is that Kevin Trudeau's contribution to the sport made the cover story on all three major pool mags when he first introduced the IPT to the pool world. The $1-million purse payout is the largest purse of any pool payout that I am aware of, not to mention the tour itself.

Thus, the mention of his presence at any pool-related event, especially the Mosconi Cup, was right on cue. The same panning of the audience is done at most high-profile boxing events.

He also sat in the "general" seating at the KOTH in Orlando most likely to check out the experience from every vantage point, I would assume.

Interestingly, at the KOTH in Orlando, excluding the Sigel-Reyes final, the audience members remained relatively quiet, with only an occasional polite applause. There was very little cheering openly, maybe because of the amount of money on the line. Who knows!? The Mosconi Cup audience, however, is very vocal, full of electricity, and exciting, something pool on TV needs, IMHO. The players' personalities come through in this setting, as opposed to robotic men/women going through their mechanical strokes in dead silence.

BTW, it is sometimes uncomfortable making any positive statement about the IPT and/or Kevin Trudeau on this forum, especially in recent days. This especially holds true for those who are current members or who are affiliated with current members in one form or another. However, I made the above statement because, in reality, those are truly my thoughts about Kevin Trudeau's attendance at the Mosconi Cup.

I do have personal reasons why I hope the next IPT tournament will NOT be in Las Vegas, but in the words of Mick Jagger, you can't always get what you want. :p

I'm not so sure that Matchroom would mind. There are potentially good synergies between the two organizations.

It will be much better for pool if Match room maintains cordial relations with KT. I guess that Matchroom`s promoter also being a good buisinessman knows this.If match room does not succumb to the fears of being taken over by KT,every thing will work out fine.

I think they were or at least they appeared to be. Barry Hearn greeted Kevin, smiling, and they went off somewhere for quite a while on Saturday. At the banquet on Wednesday, I heard only positive comments about "the recent developments in the US."

To be a fly on the wall at that meeting....that would be something:D

Having had a meeting myself with Barry Hearn he is a very sharp person and a londoner....who wouldnt fall for any cheap car salesman talk...lol

He is also a boxing promoter and used to practically own snooker in the 80's at its peak. It fact he once said to me he wont lose pool like he lost snooker so one wonders if he has something up his sleeve?....lol

Talking about being positive about KT and the IPT I am surprised that with his somewhat grey record more people arent still skeptical as to what his long term plans are.

Good point Colin, if Kevin wants the IPT televised in the UK...60 million viewers? Teaming up with Matchroom Sport would certainly be the way to go due to their relationship with Sky Sports. In order for something like this to happen Matchroom would have to end their relationship with the WPA, I'm pretty sure we all know about the problems between the IPT and WPA. Another thing to consider is that Matchroom isn't afraid to throw up big money towards a pool event, they put a million dollar budget for the WPC so I'm sure they would be willing to invest this in another event if the proper scenario presented itself.

This reply is to you sniper and also to heckler's post.

Barry Hearn is strong in working with broadcasters, not only in the UK but also in Asia and Europe. He's also been a great event maker / producer.

KT also has very good broadcasting credentials through his infomercials and reality tv experience in various markets. However, BH's connections experience could be valuable to him in moving into some major markets.

One thing KT has that BH seemed to lack is product sales and distribution nouse. Something KT is a world leader in.

Maybe these two could team up to open a US + Worldwide marketable pool product. I guess the WPA would do their best to hang on to the coat tails.

Anyway, just my 2c. I have some concept of the big picture as a sports marketer, but cannot claim deep knowledge of the inside insights of either BH or KT, whose experience and knowledge in this area I merely ponder about.
