Ki-Tech soft vs UltraSkin medium

Got my new BD SS 360-2 shaft awhile back and it came installed with an ultraskin medium tip. I have loved the shaft to this point but the tip not so much as it seemed to mushroom quickly and gloss over even faster. I do miss cue more often than i can remember so i decided to make a change. I just had a ki- tech soft installed but have not had chance to play with it. So my question is this, what adjustments in my game may i have to make with these two tips particularly from medium to soft and for those that are using ki-tech tips do u like them and did u start with soft and have to move to medium at all because i did purchase a medium tip as well just in case?

Why would you think you'd have to make adjustments to your game? The feel may vary, and likely will, but you won't see any appreciable difference in performance. The main thing with the Ki-Tech tips is they don't mushroom, they remain a constant softness throughout their life and they are very low maintenance.

So hit a lot of balls with it. You'll then see for yourself what adjustments you have to make. Anything else (reports from readers) would be indirect, second-hand feedback --hardly applicable to your cue, your abilities, and your individual stroke.

Not to seem unhelpful . . . simply logical.

You'll have to adjust your wallet to get a bigger one to hold all the cash you'll be winning with the Ki-Tech tip is what you'll need to adjust, Kablooyee BooYeahhhh that's what I'm talkin' bout!!

I had to go up two pant sizes as my regular ones ran out of space for all the 100s I had to stuff in them after I changed to a Ki-Tech tip.

I went from playing C and B players for $10 a set to spotting Mike Dechaine the 7 in 10 ball for $100 a game.

I love my Ki-Tech, I'm like 3-4 months into using mine and I've never had to shape it, and maybe scuffed it twice. Have not noticed anything I had to change to play with it.

I got my first ultra skin tip a few months ago.

Never have i mis-cued so much.

Glad it's not just me!

I played with Ultra skin tips and I liked them and thought the mis cues were just bad strokes on my part.
I switched to a Ki-tech soft and the mis cues went away.
I recently went to a Ki-tech hard and this is the tip I'm staying with for now.
I played 10 ball for 5 hours on Saturday and mis cued 2 times and both times I had loaded up for some extreme draw and spin. And as my tip guy knows-if I mis cue too much I whip out the knife and cut the tip off and move along to something new.
I haven't cut a Ki-tech off yet.
In fairness I do use Blue Diamond or Predator chalk.

I've used Ki -tech soft fir probably close to a year. Still plays perfect with no hazing and no mushroom . There the perfect tip. I also had the same experience with the ultra skin

Try some of that Russian Magic Chalk. You may never miscue again. ;)

I am having the same problem with the UltraSkin tips. I really like the hit (I'm using the super soft "Pro" tip) and I get good action on the CB with it, but it glazes over real fast. Miscues are a constant threat, something I never had to worry about in the past.

I thought my stroke was breaking down along with the rest of me, but now I'm pretty sure it's the tip. I'm a recent convert to Magic Chalk (used Blue Diamond or Cuel before that), and I saw a big improvement in the miscue deptartnent but I still miscue more than I ever remember in the past.

I have some Ki-Tech tips on hand. Guess I'll be trying one tomorrow.

I know a lot like them but I couldn't stand my ultraskin..

Ki tech all the way. They're amazing.

You guys must be doing something wrong. I've been using UltraSkin mediums for almost 2 years and don't have any issues with miscuing or mushrooming. This is shooting 1-2 hours a day at home, leave 4 nights a week and tournaments 1-2 times per month

EDIT: I cannot comment on the Ki-techs. Never tried one

I have been thinking of trying out ki-tech tips. If I like the hardness of the ultraskin mediums, which density of the ki-tech would be closest? Thanks in advance.

No offense but do you have a stroke? Or do you play high english all day long?

I am 100% sure this ultraskin i have is a lemon. hard as a rock and mis cues all day long. Or i am playing REAL BAD. could be the latter always :frown:

After trying out the soft ki-tech sum last night i would say the medium would b about the same. So far so good with this new tip but until i can get more hours on it i wont know.

why do people even fool with others tips, kamui is the best hands down...dont settle for the rest, get the best, kids!

Interesting timing for me, with this thread. In June I bought a cue and asked for an Ultraskin M to be put on it. I wanted this stick to be able to play and break well. It does both. I'm very happy with the Ultraskin tips so I took Tom Hay up on his 10 tips for $35 and bought a variety. I put a PRO on my other playing cue and instantly fell in love.

I've tried the ki-techs both M and S. Neither one were really for me, but they are great tips. Just personal preference. The thing I really like about the Ultraskins is the feel. Despite the difference in hardness, they feel the same. There are differences in performance as can be expected.

Last night I went out to shoot with the cue that has the M on it. Before I got started I decided to shape and burnish it (I usually only use a tapper rather than shaping) because I haven't shaped it since I recieved it. After I shaped it, I couldn't stop miscuing. Same tip, just less flat. What's with that?

Btw Kamui is NOT the answer. Worst tips I have ever tried, well next to predator.

Ditto on both comments

Im playing with a kitech medium. Really like it. The Kitech soft was what I started with but imo its more like a kamui ss. Felt very soft and too grabby on the cueball, especially jacking up and putting masse on the ball. The medium I find plays closer to the Kamui softs I cut off only without the glazing over that made me lose faith in my kamui clear to not miscue. So far the experience with the Kitech has been great. No mushrooming, no glazing, good feel and holds chalk well.

I have tried the ultraskin medium about a year or so ago. It was the worst tip ever. It was about the same hit as a kamui hard. It had weird feedback which I did not like at all, I can't be alone on this.

Kamui blacks are great till you have about 3 layers left then they start to miscue a lot, from what my cue maker told me it is because the glue gets soaked into the tip which makes them glaze which is why they made the clear.

Kamui so far has been the most consistant however between the majority of tips I have tried. I miss the old school morri's the most however.

you are not miscueing because of a tip......... you have a lousy stroke........... it's all you

Kim

If everyone that mis- cues has a lousy stroke then it's a large group
The ultra skin I had glazed over and mis-cued more than I like and I don't have a lousy stroke
