Kick safe off the break or roll out

Well nobody else found it interesting Mensa. I am legitimately saying the only time I will roll out is if I am hooked like a mofo. And really what I’m going to do in that situation is lock up something and leave a more manageable kickshot on the 1 most of the time. So somebody is going to have to kick at it one way or the other. I’d rather be the one at the table kicking it.
Not a bad strategy, all in all.
Haven't played roll out in a while, but I will keep that in mind next time one of us gets a hard on for old school 9 ball. Won't be that long either. Lol.
Wouldn't have liked following you.😂👍🏻

full pushout in nine ball put alot of strategy into the game favoring the smarter player. especially for non runout players.

take eddie taylor for instance. no one in the world would play him 9 ball back when pushout was normal. as he could pushout to shots he could make no one else was even close to a favorite to make. namely tough banks.

louie roberts could cut shots in no one else could. so he would push out to them.
His reverse cuts were things of Beauty.

I had a dream once where I was that good.😁
I’ve had two dreams playing against SVB. And both times he cheated! He changed the balls around on me. And we never played a full game. I woke up pissed cause we didn’t have time to play a whole match. If I cant even take him out “in my dreams” i might as well quit playing altogether. Next time im gonna cheat him and change the balls around when he is shooting.😂😂😂

It depends on who I'm playing. If the guy is a strong bet to run out, I'm kicking.
’Run-out’ players are usually aggressive, and more likely to ‘go-for-it’, on a very low percentage shot. It would depend on where the next ball is. If it’s open/near the pocket, he might be especially tempted. ‘Kicking for safe’ instead of pushing (and thus passing up the strategy options) would seem riskier. If your shot isn’t perfect, then he probably WILL run out. Pushing to where you could also easily get safe though, usually means a smarter type of opponent will likely end up with BIH.

if its a low % shot for him you want him to go for it instead of passing it back to you.
when you pushout you have to do it so it benefits you. sometimes you cant have it that way but those that dont often are not thinking clearly.

It never ceases to amaze me at how many top tier players neglect their kicking game.
Idk if jump cues had anything to do w this, but many I've played haven't developed that part of their game as well as it should be. I think one pocket players have the advantage in this area and if you aren't up to snuff, you won't beat a player who has a strong kick/safe/make game.

I see too many 600’s that are still kicking to hit the ball. Thanks for mentioning this Mensa. I was having trouble bringing that part up without writing a book. Post/edit, edit, edit/delete.lol

If I’m playing Strong player the only way I’m pushing out is if I have no kick or insanely hard one. I just don’t like the idea of pushing some place they can hit the ball and play safe.

I actually had some push out this week at apa masters and banked it center hole and ran out. I think I would rather kick at the ball and hope to get a roll.

I recently after 30 years of play learned a good kicking system from a d Appleton video and have been working on them. you should have jumping and kicking in your arsenal. sometimes one or the other is the better play.

It’s situational. I’ll look at where I intend to push, then discern what he’ll probably do with it, and where I’d be shooting from. Then evaluate whether I’d rather it be from there or where I lay after the break. Sometimes you realize the kick you’re facing is a better bet than where you’ll end up after he takes your push out. YMMV

Kicks Like A Mule was my ring game name. Back in the day when the table was a quarter. A brief period between day jobs. The quarter could be stretched by breaking 3 ball then kick 'em in. Usually able to catch the ball before it fell in the sewer system. 🤷‍♂️

There can't be a rule for this matter.

Rach situation and the environment in which it occurs is unique.
