R/H players move the left foot forward when they get down addressing the shot, left handed players do the opposite.
When the greatest make their decisions on the shot and shot line.... you'll often seen there heals touching in a vee shape before they get down ''kick out'' how much they kick out and forward with their left or right foot, creates their balanced three point stance.... allowing the swing/follow thru to be on a ''straight'' line.

I wonder if that's backward engineered from how they shoot- which might not be a bad idea. I think the pirouette into stance is a little too anti alignment. Looking cool is so important? Prowess or something. lol...

This is how we do it.

I step forward with my forward foot into the shot, it gets my head and cue in the correct spot, my rear foot goes somewhere behind my front foot so I am comfortable.

There's quite a few different stances over the years. Diliberto stood with his feet pretty much parallel. Marcel camp he used to put his opposite foot forward kind of twist his body a little bit. I've actually seen the opposite foot quite a few times.
Big Bob was so stretched out his back leg was often and under a table next to him. Shorter players like most of the Filipinos and orientals, they basically just bend the front knee a bit bend over the table and shoot. It's almost like they were built to play pool. I'm not so sure the shorter player doesn't have some advantage over the taller player.

you should also be able to stroke straight no matter where your feet are. as so many shots dont let you get to place your feet or body perfectly.

most top players have a similar stance,, as thats the natural one. bill is right on with that.

At times you'll see Kaci/Gorst stand back, ready to walk up and their heals are nearly together.
Right foot around 2 o'clock left foot around 10 o'clock.
The tall guys kick out Allot more than those that belly up.
You'll at times see Filler in sync, and use this manner.... having his distance from the table already figured out before ''down & done''.
It's why I dislike most productions.... because the viewer is unable to see the players routine walk up and foot work.
