Kicking System I developed

Well, here goes.

This a system that I developed back in around 1982. I was looking for another method to eliminate all the numbers that have to be used to figure most systems. This is a system that is separated into 1/8 segments. I guess you could say, 8 pockets, cue ball divided into 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 etc. So it seemed to work out okay.

When I have tried to convey this in writing, I guess I have lost something in the translation. Some have tried it and it worked for them when shown, (locally), others, have difficulty.

For those of them that can't, the only reason I can figure is that they are not figuring the angle correctly. Horray for the WEI table. Now I can show how I figure the system.

Everytime someone tells me that they have had problems, I try it on the table and it works. So now I am going to put it up for those on the forum to critique.

I have shown it to several people on the forum in diagrams and have gotten different opinions. Some say it appears geometrically correct, but, I want to post it to all for their view points. Good and bad.

I found though that the system has its limitations when the ball gets located above the side pocket. For those reasons, we will only diagram this to the side pocket.

I have compared it to the SIDS system and find very close in similar numbers values.

The system uses about 1/2 tip above center on the cue ball. The way I suggest people to start out on this is to shoot the cue ball out of one of the corner pockets-aim at the center diamond on the head rail and kick into the opposite pocket to acquire the speed necessary. Again as any system, tables play different and the need to adjust is present.

There are 3 pages to the WEI table. Shots work the same no matter where the cue ball is located. Any questions about different positions, please ask.

Looks correct to me. I am pretty good at kicking, and I think you are on the money. If others are not getting the right results, then they are probably not hitting center, and imparting unwanted english.

Last night, I worked on an extension of this shot....a one pocket shot. 3 rail kick shot for the corner pocket. The use of english is very touchy. Right now, I just have hand written scribbles. Still working on it.

This is interesting :)

An old gentleman at the pool hall (who's 86 and happily playing pool now) taught me a system similar to yours. I have insert what he drew into CueTable Library. Visitors later have informed me that Sid Banner, an expert writer and instructor, advocates that system to students. Please check it out:

Makes perfect sense to me, unfortunately, I probably won't remember it anymore than I do the other more complicated systems. I kick pretty well by feel and, though this system seems more reliable than that, I probably won't adopt it.
 
Will this system also work when the CB is laying on the long rail, and you are banking the CB to the long rail?

I really find the short rail system you posted very interesting.

There's another instance in which the 8 divisions are in calculations.

I always used the SID system for those kicks.

On the long rail, that is why I used the 1/8th diamond increments. To make it easier to calculate without having to remember those numbers. This calculation to .9 from the diamond shown would actually hit slightly above the side pocket with the SID system. Mine would be at 1 diamond to the side.

Of course, your adjustment to speed is very dependent on the shot.

The distance between the CB and the 2 ball are 3 dots. Half of it, is 1,5 dot. So hitting on 1,5 dot will end up on the 2 ball. When shooting 1/8 dot of the right, it will end up on the A-ball, etc.

or am i wrong?

Your pretty close Wesley. You are correct in your first calculation. You can see on the table I posted here. I changed some of the balls so there is less confusion with all the lines.

The cue extends back over less than the corner pocket. You have calculated this correct by hitting about 1/8 less than the center diamond. 1/8 from that will bring you into the 1st diamond. (cue ball A)

Your ball on the first diamond is actually less than that. I show Cue ball A as hitting the 1st diamond. You actually have to hit less than that to pocket the 2 call.

This is the main thing in understanding this system. you have to look at the end point and see where the ball comes through that point.

I assume that you are trying to develop or test a system that is equivalent to the mirror system. If so, it is easy to place a distant target at the exact location for a true mirror system. If you did that you could very quickly tell if your system was giving the correct answer. If you apply your system and you end up aiming at exactly the distant target, then your system is equivalent to the mirror system. If your system gives some other line, then your system is not equivalent to the mirror system. Placing the distant target is not hard, but you have to be careful. As for "System Sid," it is known to have simplifications in the numbering that make it not equivalent to the mirror system. Those were put in to make the numbers easier to remember.
