I am the favorite person to attack on this forum. It ain't the first time, and it won't be the last. Frankly, I don't give a damn anymore. I don't want to go the U.S. Open this year, though I may have to. I'm getting real sick of this forum and having to write replies to posters like you.

I think you are blowing this WAY out of proportion. There are idiots on this forum as well as every forum in the world. You should just ignore them, not let them ruin your enjoyment of the forum or hurt your feelings. I was simply initiating my "attack" toward you to try and get you to lighten up a little. Like I stated before, you have really been on the offensive lately in this place. You have stated numerous times that you are tired of defending yourself against numerous attacks, and I do not blame you.

You mean like what you wrote about me in this thread, accusing me of something I did not do? LOL! Geezy peezy, man.

billychips said:
However, instead of just ignoring them or going about your way, you seem to me to be initiating them now....

You initiated what I deem as a "personal attack" in this thread. Read the words you wrote about me once more and try to put yourself in my place.

Thanks for responding to explain you opinion.

Thanks for the information about Kim. Some people might not have been aware.

That said I think this thread could have went a much different route by simply rewording your first post.

this might have been better...

Great to hear that Kim is back in action and playing well! :D
Do you hvae any updates about the tourney or other players there?

For those of you that might not know about Kims last few years away from pool here is some info.............
.................
..................
....................

Personally I took it as you downing the OP for not having the information in the post or giving a tourney update.
You have a lot of great information about players and some awesome pictures. You stay inside the ropes very well and have many many pool industry friends. Some others might not be so connected and are pretty simply stating .... hey I saw Joe Blow and he looked good...... or
I went to the UYUNKL Pool Room and it was awesome.
These type posts are still valuable if only to stir up some people like yourself/Jay H/JCIN/Mike Janis/Blackjack/and many others to add information and insight.
IMO one of the major reasons people come here and lurk is that they gain access at times to insights from the inside.

Hopefully everything is going well for you and Keith and I cant wait until you the book.

Kudos to Rodney King for giving us the great saying ....

Can't we all just get along!!!!
:D :D

BTW-- great picture of Kim ... I know you have tons of pics... Have you ever thought about just making a picture book. Between you and a couple other posters with older pics , a really cool pictures only book could be made.

It did seem more than a little unnecessary to point out any lack of updates rather than just asking, IMO. And don't take this the wrong way, but I didn't see Southpaw attacking you at all. It's really too bad, cause I have enjoyed the vast majority of your posts, but any time someone from the Athens area says anything, you seem to be right there to jump on them. And as far as Southpaw attacking you, I have known him well for several years, and he simply would not go out of his way to be a jerk to you. He is a stand up guy. I hope you don't think that I am being too harsh, cause I really do enjoy most of your posts, and am just curious as to why you seem to dislike someof these people so much-Matt

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Unfortunately, Southpaw's posts directly to me in recent times have not been so kind, as you might suggest. I am glad that you and he have a good friendship. He is so fortunate to have someone like you standing up for him.

Hopefully, Southpaw will make many more contributions to this forum in the future, much like this thread, since that seems to be the kinds of topics the readers on this thread, as an example, seem to enjoy. :)

Your opinion about my contributions to this forum are noted. It is a shame I am unable to form my words and thoughts to be more in line with how you would form your words and thoughts.

Please encourage Southpaw to initiate more threads just like this one in the future. They seem to be so popular and attract so much attention. Kim Davenport shooting pool in a pool tournament in the South is certainly worthy of mention.

Both your sarcasm and condescending attitude have been duly noted:)

No problem. I tried to reply to you in the same spirit in which you replied to me. Unfortunately, you dissected my words to mean something completely opposite of what I had written. :)

Here's a Billiards Digest article about what happened to Kim Davenport when he got hit by the golf ball:

Men's Pro Kim Davenport Suffers Eye Injury
Dec 13, 2002, 12:48 PM

At the end of October, veteran 9-ball star Kim Davenport was competing in the UPA Atlanta Open, fighting for a spot on the U.S. team for the upcoming Mosconi Cup in London. Today, the 47-year-old Modesto, Calif., pro is fighting for his professional pool player life. Davenport, the 1990 Billiards Digest Player of the Year and a many-times pro tour champion, has only limited vision in his right eye, the result of a freak golf accident at a local driving range on Nov. 16. His chances of regaining full vision in the eye are uncertain.

According to Davenport, an avid golfer who sports a 3 handicap, a lawn mower kicked up a golf ball, which ricocheted off a metal post next to Davenport's practice tee, and struck him directly in the eye.

"It knocked me right to the ground," said Davenport. "I didn't know what happened. I couldn't see a thing, and I was scared to death. An ambulance came and rushed me to the hospital."

A CT scan eliminated concern over possible bleeding in the brain, but severe bleeding left Davenport completely blind in the eye for more than a week.

"The doctors don't know what will happen," said Davenport, who has regained some of the vision in his eye since the accident. "They don't think I'll ever get 100 percent of my vision back, and they've discussed a cornea transplant. They won't really know what the options are until January."

The setback comes during a period in which Davenport had regained a spot in the men's top 10 rankings. He's posted four top-10 finishes in 2002, including the Sands Regency title in June.

"I've been playing well," Davenport said. "But if I never get to play pool again, I've had 17 great years. It's just a bad roll. A nice sunny day that went dark."

Well lets get back to Kim himself. After his eye injury Im sure he had to recover and also prepare himself for the injury suit that he duly needed to pursue as he makes his living with his eye. So naturally I and others did not expect him to jump back into the game in a short time.
Since I have been living in Cali for over 40 years I have been watching and admiring Kim. I used to see him as a road warrior playing some tough back room action. I lost some good money betting against him when my home boy Hawaiian Brian engaged in a long tough battle against him. I gained some big respect for him after that. I never did like Kim cause he was so tough and could jump in your face if he felt he was on the short end of a contradiction. He was not shy about showing his feelings. He was a tough big strapping California guy and could take care of himself.
Since he got into business and married his beautiful wife, and I believe her name is Sally, he seems to have really matured himself and opened himself up to people. He has taken defeat as well as victory like a real pro. He is an inspiration. I saw him get beat by Efren Reyes in a one pocket tournament in a great battle for a top spot. The look on both warriors face was priceless. One from Kims admiration for Efren and one of respect from Efren. In Sacramento at the Hard Times Jubilee, which I believe Keith M was there, Kim was a model of professionalism and coolness while other young bucks like Tony CHohan and Amar Kang were doing their act. I dont remember who won it all but I think Kim, Santos, and Rodney were in the top three.
I wanted to chime in here not because I had any info but as a respect to Kim Davenport. Someone who has dedicated himself to the game we love. Someone who should be honored. Someone who made me aware of my values and how I wanted to be perceived. I hope others can show him this respect.

Thanks for the Kim factoids. This is EXACTLY the kind of stuff I like to read about, from those who were there.

According to the Camel article, his wife's name is Aida. Now that I read that, I do remember her name is Aida! She sure is nice too! :)
