Kim Davenport

wow thats great. kim is a really nice guy. i wish him the best.

Good news indeed, Blackjack. Kim was not just a fine player, but his polished appearance was always good for the game's image. I wish him every possible success.

They had a tournement up in Northern California (Eureka) a month ago and Kim played. The field for this tourney was incredible considering its location.

I wasn't there but heard Kim placed ninth, one out of the money. Players like Ishmael Paez also didn't place in the dough. (Paul Potier won- he must be playing great to take home the 4k prize and then beat Gabe 11-2 at the bca)

If Kim gets back to where he was before, he's going to be a terror again. Given how ridiculously talented the guy is, seeing him recover enough from his freak accident to play again is awesome.

The Reno pro event starts next week and Kim has done very well there before- I think he kind of considers it his turf. I'll try and find out if he's playing in Reno or Sacramento (Hardtimes Jamboree June 14-19 check it out at hardtimesbilliards.com)

GOOD LUCK KIM- WELCOME BACK

I'm glad Kim is back.
Kim's stroke came from God and it'd be sad if he didn't use it again.
I hope to see him here.

Kim's already back

Kim played in the $2000 added Eureka CA event last month. He cashed.

Or does it only count if it is in a regional tour?

I got to spend some time with Paul and his new wife while we were in Jacksonville. Paul seems incredibly happy and is on his "Honeymoon Tour". He's a great guy and always a threat to win any event.

Good Luck Kim !

I've seen Kim play in many past events here in New England and he is an exciting player to watch. He plays great 9-Ball and I'm looking forward to seeing him again.

For those who may not know or do not recall, Kim suffered a freak eye injury back in 2002 that left him with limited vision in his right eye. He was at a local driving range and a lawn mower kicked up a golf ball, which ricocheted off a metal post next to Davenport's practice tee, and struck him directly in his right eye. Severe bleeding left him completely blind in that eye for more than a week and at that time, his chances of regaining full vision were uncertain.

Welcome Back !

Hi Blackjack,
That is a very accurate statement.
Many people do not remember that he was placed 3rd in the world championships in 1993 held in las Vegas.
In BCA event ,in las Vegas last month ,during paul`s match an Amateur player sitting right behind Paul in VIP seat was giving advise to Paul on some shots.Paul told the guy``I do not take coaching, thank you very much``.I thought that it was funny that an Amateur guy trying to coach paul.Cheers

Hey Bud-- I used to live in Eureka, and if it's the annual event I'm thinking of, it's a straight pool tournament. A local construction company owner donates $2000, which is to be paid for 1st place. Guys come from all over, since it's rare to find a good paying 14.1 tournament; plus Eureka is very pleasant in the summer-- usually 65-70 degrees. We used to get guys like Dan Louie, Chris MacDonald, Bobby Hunter, etc. Sounds like the field was tough, if Potier, Davenport and Peaz were there. I think it's also a testament to the fact that there aren't that many decent tournaments around. I'm delighted to hear that Kim D. is back at it. I see he's slated to play in Verona, NY in Ausust, so he should be in fine form by then. I've never seen anyone with a more perfect stroke and stance. He's a pleasure to watch.

So Joey....are you saying that all of the forum dweebs and wannabe's that think all you have to do is hit a million balls or two in order to gain perfection still ain't gonna have Kim's stroke? :(
(BTW, I agree...he did hit a million or more balls himself...but very few are blessed with that stroke and innate ability straight out of the womb)

I believe the tournement in Eureka was the McKittrick 9-Ball Open held on April 30-May 1 at Ragg's Rack Room. 4000 added, winner breaks, no jump cues, free tri-tip with entry. On the Wire magazine (april) ran an ad for it (onthewirebilliards.com) but they don't have the results online.

I heard Paul Potier beat George Michaels in the finals; 4000/1800 was the payout for 1st/2nd approximately.

A friend played in the event so I'll try and see who elso played and if the tri-tip was any good.

That's great news. I know that despite his injury preventing him from playing on the Mosconi Cup team in 2003 he was instrumental in helping the rest of the team train for the event, which shows great dedication when many people would have given in to self-pity in such a situation.

Probably.
Mine came from hell.
I tried to imitate Kim's pendulum stroke.
Mine looked like an oil-drill gone haywire when I tried to do that.
Btw, Kim said when he was young, he used Coke bottles to perfect his stroke.
I don't know if it made a difference but I wonder if it had to be Coke.
Not Pepsi or any other brand. :D

Kim Davenport to Return

I can hardly wait to see Kim back on the tables. Does anybody know how he is playing? I hope he does well at this event!

Man, I could not be happier. My buddy and I are heading up to watch that tournament and now I get the added treat of watching Kim play in person.

Thanks for the link.

Thanks for the add'l info, Bud. I see they must have changed the format from when it was Ichabod's Billiards and previous owners. The gap in 1st/2nd is probably due to the guy I mentioned earlier stipulating that his 2K go to 1st place. I've heard the new owner --evidently Rags-- is quite an action guy, and likes to put his money where his mouth is when it comes to tournaments.

I'll have to go with the majority here, I think Kim is a super nice guy. In 20 years of going to pro tournaments, he stands out among the pros as the nicest player I've ever been around - all the time. I wish him well - he is a credit to the game.
