Recently I heard it mentioned somewhere that Kim plays with "one eye" or something like that. Does that mean he is blind in one eye, or his vision is really bad?

From what I hear, blind. Freak golfing accident that happened about two years ago. Search the forum for more info; lots of threads on this.

The greenskeeper was mowing way to close to people playing...... the mower threw a golfball that smacked him square in the eye. If Im not mistaken, he has regained some sight in it, but not fully recovered.

> I read or heard somewhere when it first happened that it happened at a driving range, where the mower slung it out,and it ricocheted off the corner or side of the concrete slab that sometimes elevates a special pad with a permanent tee built in,and it hit him as he was either preparing to swing or was looking away, either way he didn't see it or could have avoided it. I also heard there was a pretty hefty lawsuit either pending or has already been settled. Regardless of how it happened,it flat sucks for him if it affects his game or quality of life in the slightest. Tommy D.

Is there any chance that Kim can make a full recovery? Does anyone know the full details about this? I heard about his injury, but I didn't know that he was blinded by it.

The accident happened in late 2002 if memory serves. There was talk after it occurred that he wouldn't play again, obviously that turned out to not be the case as he is playing pool more regularly.

My understanding is that he won't recover any more sight in his bad eye. The medical doctors that treated him were amazed that he regained any sight in the first place.

Kim didn't talk about any lawsuits or other legal litigation as I recall. I do vaguely remember that he likened his being blinded to "getting a bad roll".

I play with one eye, and i have no depth perseption, and i asked the eye doc how do i play so good then, he said that i just adapted to it.

And he is right. We have two one eyed players here locally that I know of. They play very good. I asked them both if they ever played with two good eyes before. One did one didn't. The one that had not has never known and thus couldn't comment on how it would affect your game. The other simply wouldn't give up the game and overcame the problem thru dedication and persistance.

Both laughed when I suggested if they ever tried to handicap a spot by playing with a patch over one eye!

If one has good vision is both eyes, one should try closing either eye and 'see' how the game falls off.
I know of one Pro-player (once was rated 7-8th in the world) that is blind in one eye and he is still better many. I give him and others a great deal of recognition for their playing abilities!

Hal

> There was a well-known pro back in the late 80's/early 90's named Tom Brown that lost his eye due to melanoma as a kid,and ran 116 the day after leaving the hospital after having a prosthesis put in at 17. He said he had depth perception problems as well, which is why he only played on 9 foot tables. He played well enough that he was a top 32 ranked player, and won dozens on tournaments on the Florida Tour. Tommy D.

He didn't really play for about almost 3 years because of his eye and a law suit..He had one surgery on it and it helped...His eye is a little discolored when you look at him close up...He really won't give an answer as to how he sees out of it..I think lack of playing, old age and the quality of pool players that have hit the scene lately make it difficult for anyone to win and be in the money all the time...

In other words, its more than just the eye...But he does still play really strong....Whether He can make a full comeback remains to be seen...He of course came back because of the money offered by I.P.T.....I think He might of lost a little of the "killer instint" He used to have also.....Time will tell.......

my cousin is blind in one eye, and he shoots superior. I feel bad for Kim i ddn't know he had an accident like that, i know when i almost went blind from my contacts i was scared, as pool is a big part of my life. Hope he recovers. But for my cousin he was born like this i posted a thread on when he sharked me a while back.
