Kim Jones First Black Woman to Play in World Championship

If you go to a zoo you see signs that say "Don't feed the animals". Forums should have signs that say "Don't feed the trolls". If they're ignored, they will go away. I'm just saying.

It simply amazes me that there is even a discussion involving race participating in a pool tournament. The last I knew the color of someones skin did not disqualify their skill level. Don't you guys think if there were more black players skilled enough to play pro they would be playing. The sooner these race issues stop the sooner all people can move on. I mean who gives a crap what color Kim Jones is... if she is good enough to be there best of luck to her.

You'd think an article about Jeannie Seaver would have pictures of, I dunno, Jeannie Seaver.

That wasn't her in the top pic? Or you mean... shanelle got the bigger pic?

Anyway, you have to laugh a little at this quote:
"Shanelle has gotten so much better. Before she was just a pretty face but no real threat. Now she is making great shots and winning matches. I'm really impressed",commented Seaver of her finals opponent."

If that doesn't give Shanelle a burning desire to kick her ass the next time they play, I don't know what will.

Well, you have a point, maybe they had trouble finding a pic of seaver actually shooting (whereas shanelle has a zillion)?

I had trouble finding pics of seaver via google. Shanelle was there cuz she was the runner-up I guess, but imo it would have made more sense to enlarge the first pic and shrink the second, or leave the 2nd out entirely. It does make the story look like it's about shanelle and not about the person who actually won.

Some blacks use the race card, some blacks don't. Some whites use the race card, some whites don't. It doesn't mean that the entire race shares that negative trait, which is how you were labelling ALL black people.

i don't normally agree with what you say but i'll second this post

enough.

she did mention that the black people she had dated didn't use the race card. meaning she only referenced those people and not the whole race. she's not labeling the entire race so it's really not racist

The fact that she used any description other than "men" makes it a racist comment. Plain and simple. There is simply no reason for her to mention the race of men she has dated. If you remember I think you were involved in a post a few months back about an "elderly black woman". I simply replied "why was the fact that she was black relevant". It started a big thing and the bottom line is that it was not relevant except to somehow set the tone of the story according to the poster. To tell you the truth man I just get sick of it. Everyday you hear it in the news or on tv about some certain race doing this or doing that and it just keeps us resentful towards one another.

Cliff wasn't the first African-American to compete for a World championship. Don't forget that Cisero Murphy won a world championship in the 1960's. Also, Earl Herring came a solid fourth in a world straight pool championship in the late 1970's.

As for the women, I'm thinking that the claim that Kim is the first Black Woman to compete in a world championship is valid unless the Women's Junior World Championships are included in the discussion.

To my recollection, the most noteworthy titles won by a non-junior African-American woman were the two BCA National 8–BALL Championships won in the Women's Masters Division by Pam Bell of Wisconsin, but they were national, not world championships.

Wishing Kim the best of luck.

This may go down in history sjm as it's not often you could be mistaken.......well kinda mistaken, along with the others who have contributed so far to this examination of whether Kim is the first :)

You and most of USA are excused for not being up to speed in WPA Blackball (for those who don't know that's English 8 ball pool played to one particular rule set out of the many English 8 ball rule sets existing).

Not that any of this "first black woman to........" stuff really matters anyway but for the record the current 2008 Ladies Singles and Doubles World Blackball Champion is the South African former snooker player Ms Apsra Panchoo who whilst not African American is certainly not white. She won the Ladies Singles and Doubles World Champion titles last year during the series of World Finals of all Team, Mens and Ladies Blackball events which were held in Swaziland, Africa in August and in which I understand that several black ladies played. :)

Good luck to Kim and to everyone else who qualifies for the Dragon event.

This is your post that I find offensive:
Why is it that Blacks have to have a label in front of what they are?
You're saying that all black people have to label themselves by their race. I responded:
Any black person I ever dated never used the race card. I don't see Kim Jones using it either. The post was made by DP.
I have dated different races and nationalities of both sexes. That is why I used the term "person". That certainly doesn't make my post racist.

Then this is your next post:
I have had employees of pretty much every race and have NEVER had a white employee say that I was letting them go because they were white. My girlfriend works for the San Francisco police department and every time a complaint is lodged against an employee of color the very first thing out of their mouth is it's because I'm black or Mexican or Chinese or whatever and that sucks. Maybe it's because they were just a crap employee.
Another racist comment.

Drop it already! The majority of the people posting in this thread have ignored them and done a good job at keeping the racist BS out of this thread. The more you respond to this person about this subject, the worse this is going to get. They made their point (we all get it) and you've made your point (we all get it). Stop while the getting is good.
