Ga Young Kim defeated Karen Corr 7-6 in the finals of the US Open in Albuquerque. She led all the way and played super pool. Karen made some critical mistakes down the stretch that cost her the title. Melissa Herendon was tied with Karen Corr 5-5 in the second semi when she was called for a foul. I personally thought she got robbed, but the crowd around the replay monitors pretty much agreed it was a good call. She was shooting the 3 which was tied, almost frozen, to the 6 against the long rail. Melissa shot a cross corner bank on the 3 and was called for a bad hit on the 6. From the look on her face, she definately did not agree with the call, and neither did I. I did talk to the official during break and he was dead positive. ESPN replayed it, but I was pretty far away from the monitors, but those who saw the replays say it was a good call. Tough break for Melissa at a really bad time. Karen won the next two games for a 7-5 win and spot in the finals against Ga Young Kim. Congratulations to Melissa on some great pool and super competition. I was sitting right behind her both tonight and last night in her match against Allison...what a comeback last night! She was down 6-2 and won 9-7. Wow! A really great tournament for Melissa and a super win for Ga Young Kim. Congratulations to both!

Great stuff. Fine win by a fine player! The top three finishers in New Mexico all made significant climbs in the WPBA rankings, too. My caclulations show that Herndon has risen to #11, Ga Young Kim to #7, and Karen Corr to #1.

I can just imagine what kind of pressure Ga Young must have been facing going hill-hill with Karen after the shot she missed on the 9-ball last year at hill-hill against Karen.

My calculations show Ga Young Kim as #5 given the first place finish. I could not find a score for her to drop off, so I asumed she did not have one. Was I wrong? If I am what were the points she dropped?

The event dropping off was the 2003 BCA Open, in which Ga Young Kim earned 20 ranking points. My calculations show Ga Young Kim at 675 WPBA ranking points, which is 5 points less than #6 Monica Webb.

You're right. I was just assuming she didn't have any points to drop since I couldn't find 'em. :( (It's the laziness in me, 'cause I really didn't look that hard, LOL!) Thanx. The rest of my calculations are right.
