Oh man my ppv, cut out when they were gone on the hill, never got to see it... DaMN. And Johnny broke his cue ???????????? When after KIm snapped the break ??<<ED
Were that Earl to have done that we would be going onto page #4 about it atm.
Archer broke the balls on the hill and got bad after the break. He
slapped his leg and his cue shattered!
He tries to run out with his break cue and dogs the 7-ball to let
Davenport get to hill-hill. Davenport broke the 9-ball in on the case
game!!!

That's like saying if he hadn't broke his cue, he might have won.
We'll see if that stops him from breaking cues.

For some crazy reason, they put a shot clock on them in the middle of their match. Even though they were actually two full games ahead of an adjacent table. So, Johnny started getting agitated, deservedly so.
He smacked his leg, but no harder than any of us would. And the cue just broke. He certainly could have won, but the shot clock and the cue break definitely worked against him.

No No NO!!!! Kim and Johnny are best friends and are business partners. Kim was as mad as Johnny was and was probably madder than Johnny was when he (Kim) ended up beating him. Kim actually berated a couple of people that may have had something to do with the shot clock being put on.
The matches were already about 30 minutes behind schedule when they got started. My guess is that the TV matches were put on the clock to try to make sure that they got in with fans still in the arena. That's my best guess as that match wasn't going slowly by anyone's definition. There was hardly any lint picking and hardly any stalling. The two played at a pretty decent and regular pace.

Though I was really pulling for Kim Davenport to make the Final Four, I think he had a GREAT tournament. So did Johnny.
Anybody who can advance the charts in a field like this deserves a little glory.
With pool tournaments, there is such a narrow difference in winner and loser. If both players are playing well, it sometimes comes down to one ball as the determining factor.
All in all, this year's U.S. Open was great, at least reading it on this forum. Congrats to Kim and Johnny for playing well this year.

Why? Because putting on the shot clock was unnecessary. It added an undo element on their match. Their match ended up with errors neither of them might have made if there was no shot clock. And because it rattled his best friend. These guys are like brothers. I'm sure Kim hated to see Johnny like that too.
Further, they weren't playing slowly. There were two other matches that were going slower than they were. They were two full games more than than Shane Van Boening's match.
And this is Johnny Archer's HoF year. He was playing well enough to win it if he got past Kim. Johnny had a lead and was shooting comfortably. To put a shot clock on in middle of the match that wasn't going slow in my opinion was disgraceful. Johnny deserved better than to be ousted from the tournament in this fashion.
I think Scott Smith was trying to give Johnny as much of a break as he could, but then at times that meant that Scott was nowhere to be found when Johnny was turning around to say "extension." Talk about a rhythm breaker.
It was just all bad. And Kim took it out on the TV crew / BCN, AccuStats.

I saw a vid somewhere, Johnny wasn't happy about a missed shot, he put his cue behind his neck, and hung on to both sides of his cue, and the cue broke. Wasn't easy to tell if he broke it on purpose or not.

I really don't understand why they were put on a clock. I stepped away from the computer for a few and it occurred while I was gone. The match started 35-40 minutes past 7, I don't see why the players should be rushed when the tournament is actually running behind, your totally affecting the quality of play. ESPECIALLY when it's down to the last 12. Whatever =(
It was a tough match to watch since both players were mentally out of their stroke after the annoucement of the shot clock.
At that point, everything seemed to interfere with the concentration for Johnny.
