Need help identifying what kind of wood this is.

I am thinking it is Cocobolo, but I am not sure.

Thanks,

Scott

The picture is a little faint but I would say it's Coc. Depending on what region it comes from, Coc may just be the most versatile wood when it comes to different colors.

Okayyyy...It's Cocobolo.:) But what kind is what I want to know. Hope you can find out.

Without being able to see more of the cue I would suggest that it is nicaraguan cocobollo. Nicaraguan cocobollo tends to have more of a brownish hew and have less stripes while mexican cocobollo will have more of a red color and have more striping. Thats just my 2 cents

Reality check here:

There are trends in the look of the tropical exotics based on location
but, no one can tell for sure where a piece of
tropical hardwood came from just by inspection.

There is an immense ammount of variation in color,
figure, etc. than can be due to local conditions of soil, climate,
and so on.

As for this specific piece of, what looks to be Coco,
the best one can do is determine which of the four species
it is. Something a Botonist in a lab could do.

My guess: retusa

Thanks for all of the responses. I sent an e-mail to Tim Scruggs, hopefully he will know exactly what type it is.

Regards,

Scott
