Kinda pool related-Jim McKay RIP

To me he was the voice of winter and summer olympics.
And of course, horse racing.
" The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat."

God bless Jim. He is already missed.
I bet he and Howard Cosell are going at it now.

Seems I grew up with him.

I remember him well and will always remember him with a smile :)

What was cool about his show was I never knew what it was going to be until it started, al least I didnt, we were broke and didnt get TV Guide I dont remember if they advertized the content of "Wide World of Sports", the week before it came on, to it was a suprise, sometimes it sucked, but Jim was awalys fired up about it no matter what it was about. Man has the world changed it seems so small now.

His riveting coverage of the tragic 72 OLYMPICS (MUNICH) represented journalisim at its finest.

A true GIANT in his chosen profession.

"If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life".

Jim Mc Kay lived 86 years and never worked a day in his life. How great is that? He even made a special on HBO a couple of years back that chronicled his life as a sports journalist and family man. He really did have a great life, and you could tell he knew and appreciated that. I'm sure HBO will be replaying that show soon, it is worth watching.

My thoughts too

Mr. Jim McKay was part of why I got interested in sports in my youth. I couldn't wait for Saturday afternoons with the "Wide World of Sports".

You will be missed Mr. McKay.

Every Saturday afternoon included Wide World of Sports. From world class sports to Barrel Jumping, that show had everything and Jim McKay was simply the best. Never too many words or too few; just the right amount and the right ones. I remember the 72 Olympics like it was yesterday and his handling of that terrible day was TV journalism at it's best. He was broadcasting live for something like 12 hours that day.

Read his autobiography a few years ago and he started in TV as a song and dance man in Baltimore on the first TV station there. What a wonderful life he had and how fortunate for us that we got to know him.

Rest well Jim McKay. The hole you've left in TV hasn't yet been filled.
