Kou vs Wu

Both showing nerves but the safety play has been outstanding. These guys have killer breaks making balls every time.

Commentators mentioned that if Wu wins, he is going to buy his Grand Ma a house.

Kuo's girlfriend (what a beauty) is celebrating her birthday.

Gotta love that Wu. What a nice gesture! Go get 'em, Wu!

Kuo 2 vs Wu 6

Wu breaks and makes the 3 and has a tough 1 off the bottom short rail. Fine cuts the 1 and missed it barely overcutting it. Gets a lucky safe offering a small peek of the 1.

Kuo runs for cover, but offers the 1 instead to the bottom right married to the 4.

Wu makes it cleanly without touching the 4. 2 left side. 4 bottom right. 5 top right married to the 7 on the left side. 6 bottom left. 7 top left. 8 bottom left and the 9 near short rail to the bottom right for the rack.

Very impressed with Wu. He will be good for the game of pool. His style of play is fairly fast and he likes to go for shots. But he also has a great defensive game when he needs it.

Kuo 3 vs Wu 6

Wu breaks and makes 1 and 2 with a long makeable 3 off the long rail pass the side for the top right. Fine cuts it and misses.

Kuo has a long 3 from near top right packet for the bottom right and reverse cuts it and makes it off the right long rail barely missing the 5. 4 made then 5 bottom right, 6 on the same packet. 7 top left and 8 on the same packet and 9 bottom right for the rack.

Kuo 4 vs Wu 6

Kuo breaks and makes 1 and 6 with a small view of the 2 hampered by the 6. Reverse fine cuts top right and missed. Kuo gets a lucky roll with 6 covering the view. Wu flicks masses but missed it and fouls.

Kuo makes the 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 to right side and overruns a bit for the 9. 9 made slight reverse to bottom right for the rack.

The games are going by very quickly. Race to 17, though, the big "W" is still up for grabs. I'd love to see Wu buy his grandmother a new house. What a great kid! Seems like some cultures do take care of the aged, unlike American society which tends to shuffle them off to nursing homes and out to pasture to die.

OK, Wu has made misstakes in the last two games to lose them both. Let's see if this effects him. The pressure is starting to mount.

Kuo 5 vs Wu 6

Kuo breaks and makes the 6. Has a makeable 1 to top right and made. 2 pushed for the CB to hide behind the 9. Nice safety.

Wu kicks and leaves the 2 on the bottom right, but CB hides behind the 3 top table.

Kuo kicks smoothly off the long right rail and makes it. 3 to left side. 4 bottom left. 5 top left. 7 top right. 8 top left. Uses the rest to draw for the 9. 9 bottom left for the rack.

Oh, no, say it isn't so. Another thing to consider is that young Wu knows the 27-year-old seasoned Kuo and his track record. It would be the American equivalent of a young gun Pookie or Little John maybe competing with Johnny Archer in the finals. Could be a head trip. Knowing your opponent can be an advantage and a disadvantage, but it's definitely in Wu's head WHO he is playing. I wonder if the two of them know each other and are friends off the court.

I can't even think of an American 16-year-old pool player who is capable of stepping up to the plate at the WPC. Takes a lot of courage, self-confidence, and guts. Hope Wu catches a gear.

Kuo 6 vs Wu 6

Kuo breaks and makes 3, 4 and 8. Unfortunely having no decent shot on the 1. Kuo banks for cover. A decent enough safe.

Wu goes airborne. Fires away and offers tester of a 1.

Kuo rattles in the 1 to bottom left. 2, 5 and 6 deposited. 7 bottom left and 9 bottom right to go even.

Commentator Bob Guerrero was talking about the jumper and Steve Davis says he has nothing to do with it and won't comment. Quite funny Davis is.

It's a race to 11 at this point.

The tide is turning, and with Wu remaining seated, watching Kuo make balls on the break, it's going to take a little steam out of his engine. Then, when you do get back up to the table, you're cold. Kuo is loose as a goose right now.

Say what you want about Earl Strickland, but Steve Davis seems to be quite a colorful fellow, full of surprises. :p

If I were Wu, I'd take a break to the rest room a la Jackie Gleason in "The Hustler" and start anew. He's got to get his head screwed on straight to weather the storm up ahead.

Kuo 6 vs Wu 7

Kuo breaks and makes the 4 with nothing on the 1 resting off the short top rail and CB hampered by the 3. Calls a push to short rail bottom. Wu returns it to Kuo. Kuo runs for cover, but nearly packets it left side, but still safe.

Wu kicks hard and hits the 1 going to the 5 (nearly hanging on the top right), but didn't make 5. Kuo runs for cover again. Wu kicks hard offering a reverse 1 to top left. Kuo thinks hard and instead goes for cover and safes again. Wu brings the jumper out, goes airborne and offers the 1.

Kuo packets the 1 for bottom right slightly hampered by the 6 and draws back to the top 2 and positions well. Packets the 2 top right, 3 and 4 on the same packet. 6 bottom right off the rail but got jawed.

Wu gets the gift. 7 and 8 deposited then 9 for the rack and the break.

Kuo 6 vs Wu 8

Wu breaks and makes 1, 5 and 6 off a monster break. Has a 2 to bottom right, 3 top left, 4, 7 bottom right, 8 and the 9 for a very fast clean up and the rack to go up by 2.

I can't believe how fast these games are going by. Wow, Wu won another big one! :p

Begs the question: What kind of break cue are they using?
