Kress Router from Brianna ...

Finialy got my new Kress router hooked up and adapted to my CueMonster.

Cut some shafts down a bit today.
The router is the high quality you would expect from German engineering.
It runs very smooth with far less vibration than the other routers I have used. The router shaft bearings have no play.
I like the way the on-off switch unlocks and turns off with just a press of the finger.

Using the 6 tooth cuter the number "3" on the speed control gives plenty of tip speed for a smooth cut.

I am happy with the Kress router and it will be used to do all my shaft tapering and perhaps some of the other CNC tasks.

Looks good Willee, was there any trouble switching out the plug. I found it to be easy. Glad to see you are happy with it. I did notice that the collet is a little hard to get out of the nut. I know it was designed that way. I have asked Lee to purchase extra nuts so that the collet and nut can stay together. He said he would get extras on the next order.

That would not be a bad idea if you were going to switch between 1/4" and 1/8" tool shanks.
I plan to use this one mostly with 1/4" shank bits.

nice work...look good

Adonisy, you have the same equipment that I have.
Except I dont have the Micro CueSmith II.
Let me know if I can help you with anything.

Have you tried the 6 tooth cutters yet?

because I see your equipments , so I bought them... :)

I try 6 tooth before , but in Taiwan router bit is very cheap.. ($2 ~ $3)

how do you put the kress router on the CNC ?

I mean how can you do brackets ? thanks

I turned a piece of Maple round to fit into the Unique Router bracket hole.
Then I sliced off a thick piece and bore out the center to fit the Kress Router.
Cut the wood adapter ring so it will clamp tight.

The 6 tooth wing cutter is not about price ... it is about performance.
If you ever used one you would never again use a router bit for tapering shafts and butts.
Using that cutter I can run the Kress at about 1/2 speed and get a fast smooth cut.

Kress Router---

Has anybody hooked one up to a Hightower that cares to share some pics?

Me too. I just ordered one from Lee. I'm sick of cutting one shaft at 13MM and the next one coming out at 13.5MM without touching anything. Not to mention the fact that that Porter Cable Router vibrates so much I think I can feel it when I'm outside.

- Exactly what does it take to switch the plug? Just cut off the factory one and wire in a standard 110 plug, or does it have to be a 220 plug?
- Does anyone know the horsepower rating of the router?
- How about the diameter of the collar where the router gets mounted to the tool attachment/tool post setup?

Thanks!

Regards,
Frank

Frank, the Kress that Lee sells at Brianna is a 220v 1050watt motor. You will want to wire a standard 220v plug. Yess it is just two wires. Those Germans don't need no stinking ground. The mount needs to hold the 43mm ring at the base of the motor. Lee can make up a bracket at an additional charge if you call him at let him know what you need.

Jim,

Thanks. Exactly the info I needed.

For those that want to know, 1 horsepower is = to 746 watts.
That makes the Kress 1050 a 1.41 HP router, FWIW.

Your welcome Frank, Kress actually makes an 850w and 500w versions but the cost difference is not much concidering these need to be imported. They did make an 850w 110v version but no longer do. You can purchase that one from Techno Isle if they still have one but I think they want like $500.00. I was told that no other company in America is importing them except Brianna by Kress themselves. OH, and I should point out that the aluminum ring that you need to clamp on to is a heat sink for the motor so if you want to disipate heat than a chunck of aluminum is the way to go for mounting.
