I want to add SJM to the folks I give thanks to for posting on AZB. Almost everything Stu posts is insightful and interesting, and he always treats everyone with respect. I can tell from reading his posts that he, like many of us, is truly in love with the game of pool. So thanks Stu!

If you ever attend a major event (when life gets back to normal), seek out Stu and say hi to him. His intelligence and passion for the game is only exceeded by his good manner and courtesy. He’s a gem in the pool world.

I enjoy following his writings as well. In addition, at the last DCC I purchased the TV table and was there when Jennifer Baretta won over Joey Korsiak and upon completion of her win she ran straight to Stu and If i am not mistaken gave him a hug. Upon return the friendly guys at Diamond allowed me to ask her and Joey to sign the table. I got to talk with her and mentioned to her about running over to him and she said he was a great supporter of her and she attributed a lot of her success to him. I later found out via AZB who that guy was and followed him and should have started this thread. KUDO’s STU. In closing she politely signed my table and said ” I sure hope you enjoy it as much as I did”. Joey was not as happy of course.

I totally agree. I'm retired and watch a LOT of pool videos. I kept noticing the same guy at
numerous events on the front row watching every shot intently. Somehow I found out that
this guy was SJM, (Stu).
Thanks Stu, your style of writing, context, and opinions is a joy to read.
PS ~ especially with all the correct punctuation and the way paragraphs are spaced. Easy read for old eyes!

I can personally vouch for that.

Any top five posters list would have to include Stu. My pecking order changes now and then and I have to give Mike and the mod a lot of credit. Stu is usually right behind!

When it comes to level headed quality posts Stu can be counted on every time. I believe he has recently acknowledged mentoring Ms Barretta for over a decade if I am not mistaken so her running over to him after a big win would not be surprising at all.

Stu may be all of pro pool's #1 fan and he is one of the comparatively few that remain that have formed the backbone of AZB for more years than he probably cares to be reminded of!

A "let's pile on and embarrass Stu" thread is long overdue. He gets far less recognition than he deserves.

I would say Stu has become pool's #1 fan to such a level that it's no longer about how much he loves pool. It's turned into how much pool loves Stu in return. And it's warranted. He lives up to a standard that I feel is an inspiration to the rest of us. Anytime he expresses his opinion on a topic, I instantly become interested.

I was, like a few have already mentioned, always curious who the man (Stu) was, that attended and sweated what seemed like every single TV match I had ever seen. I could tell he was an important person. He had great seats, sat with known pool figures and people were always wanting to talk to him. How could I not know his name? I’m certain I knew of SJM, before I knew of Stu Mattana.

Then it happened! The Hustlers TV series aired. When Stu showed up in the series, I was so excited I had to tell my wife who he was. I even fired up the DVR to show her old pool videos with Stu sweating matches, in the front row. She wasn’t as excited as me but pool has been more of a thorn in her side, than anything else. At any rate, I put it all together shortly after that.

I’ve had the opportunity to talk, briefly, with Stu, on two occasions. Both were at DCC. He is every bit the same gentleman, in person, that he is on AZB. Many thanks for all your contributions, Stu!

Wow, this thread is very generous. I'm proud to be part of this shining AZB community. I've been very lucky over the years to have been able to experience pool to such a great extent. I don't think it's important to rate the posters on this forum, for each of us contributes in his/her way, but to get this feedback from posters that I myself admire is something I'll remember fondly.

Thank you.

Bought my son the series "the hustlers" over 3 years ago and he was hooked. Most 7 year olds (now 11) want to watch cartoons, but Jin wants to watch the series. I remember the first time Stu was mentioned on the show and then the first time we watched a tournament on youtube and Stu was sitting right there in the background.

Jin mentions, "There's Stu, Jennifers mentor".

Reading his postings on here and seeing his demeanor on TV, you can tell he would be an awesome person to be able to spend some time and converse with. He is on Jins bucket list of people to meet and talk to now haha.

The only thing better than reading SJM's posts is having the opportunity to visit with him in-person. I have had the good fortune to socialize with SJM, and I have always enjoyed his company. He is a class act on this board and in "real life".
