I am putting on a 16-player event on the small island outside Stavanger where I live, and it will be a single elimination tournament in 9-ball.
It will be played on 1 table, and the format is quite similar to Challenge of Champions, with two short sets race to 4, and if a tie, it will be one last deciding rack to determine the winner.
One of Norway's biggest newspaper wants to use the ustream embedcode in their article about the tournament. The newspaper have 70 000 daily unique visitors, so there's a chance some non-pool related people might watch it too. BUT. As of today, the streaming is not working, but I have a guy working on it. I have to admit that I have lost almost all the hope I had, and if it will work I will consider it a big bonus. Crossing my fingers...
Anyway, the 16 players consist of some Norwegian Champions from both pool and snooker, Nordic Champions, European Champions, 2 WPBA players in Line Kjorsvik and Monica Webb and a handful of local/regional players.
Tomorrow, Thursday, I will run a tournament in 8-ball (1 rack single elimination) for people living on this island, and hopefully those who join will have a lot of fun. The final of this tournament will be played on Saturday, just minutes before the final in the main event.
Our tournament starts on Friday, and ends on Saturday. After that we have a "banquet" with 54 guests, eating crabs and shrimps before heading off for our annual Crab Racing.
I hope the players and spectators will enjoy this weekend, as it is my first attempt to do something like this at home. I've run tournaments for almost 200 people before, but I've never been as nervous as now
Anyway, you can visit the homepage www.kvitsoycupen.net for more info about Kvitsoy, and also see some pictures of the arena (click Mitt fotoalbum).
RunOutMedia.com and Pooliq.net are contributors for my event, and their DVD's will be part of the prizes for both the "pro"-event and the amateur event.
As a little extra I have added a contest on the page (click "Tipp og vinn"), where all you have to do is to leave a comment with the player you believe will win. This have to be done before Friday at 4 PM ( Friday 10 AM Eastern), which is the start of the event.
The players, and the draw:
Vegar Kristiansen - Askild Hansen
Jason Hansen - Monica Webb
Egil Arne Sorensen - Knut Kvaal Pedersen
Steffen Wolff - Roy Steffensen
Ole Eidsheim - Johan Lende
Vidar Blidensol - Jan Edvard Nilsen
Olav Skrudland - Line Kjorsvik
Tommy Wolff - Stian Larsen
Total prize money = $ 6000
