Looks like I'll be heading up to Laconia next weekend, and may have a night out. I've been going up there for many years for family reasons but never looked for a pool hall. Any one up there know a nice place to play?

I use to live around that area for 10 years. As far as I know there is no pool hall there any more. JUst a small barbox place called shooters tavern around Franklin I believe. But if you go an hour north to the Valley... North Conway which is beautiful... right in the heart of the white mountains you will find a couple places... The Club & Peking Sunrise Lounge. Also Concord isn't far from there I'm sure there is a room there.

The room in Concord closed last year. There is a room down in Hooksett, NH, just about a mile or so off of Rte 93 Exit 9. It is the home room of Mazin Shooni, the 2006 US National 3 cushion champion. They have three 9' tables and maybe 7 bar boxes, plus two gorgeous Gabriel heated 3-c tables. I live a couple miles off Exit 18, so you drive right by on your way north :)

The pool room in Concord (Concord Billiards) is closed. The places in North Conway are still open. You might try Cue and Cushion in Hooksett NH. The owner is a National champion 3 cushion player named Mazin Shooni. Nashua has Boston Billiards Club, Merrimack has Slap Shots (12 nine footers.)
The closest place is Fun Spot on rt.3 in Meridith, not sure about their winter hours.

Have fun

You guys saying Concord has no pool rooms any more ? That is too bad. Times are definatly tough with the economy & poker has hurt the sport too from what I have seen. I had a friend down that way in Chichester I use to go down & play with when I lived in NH. Lee French was his name... good player & a super nice guy... haven't seen him in years... anyone know if he still plays ?

Lee French! Now that is the name from the past. I haven't seen his name is quite awhile. After the Rooms in NE started to close and Mike Zuglan took the Joss tour (fka All About Pool Tour) more into NY and PA, I never see the old(er) guys any longer. Lee was a great guy. He used to make at least two appearances in my room a year.

Curious, now that the economy is hurting, has anyone heard if the "poker craze" is showing any sign of weakening? I had a couple of guys that have been doing the casino/poker thing for a few years ask me if I had any cues I could sell them. They both said they aren't playing anymore. Just wondering.

Yep good ole Lee lol... hope he is doing good.. I miss the old times down that way. Far as the poker craze goes I haven't seen it let up my way here in Maine. The poker craze, the economy, change in general around the game... certainly isn't what it use to be.

Nothing irritates me more then these young punks and their sunglasses sitting around a poker table thinking they are even in the same class as a "Texas Dolly".

Things that go up in a down economy: auto part sales; liquor sales; cheap local entertainment. That used to mean pool rooms and bowling alleys. You can still play in a league for under $10. I'm betting the room owners will start to say "even though we don't have smoking anymore, business seems to have picked up lately."

Lee is still playing...:D As far as I know he still has his AE Schmidt table at home. I heard he sold his South West..:( I saw him at a league play off down in Plastow NH about year ago, he's the same guy I've known for 25+ years. Still hits em real good to.

Thats good. Leagues are big up this way. Good for the room owner & small pubs. League play has certainly put a change in the way the game is looked at as well over the years in my opinion.

You could take the Kangamangus Highway (Rte 302, I believe) right through those mountains over to North Conway :D

Soundwave The Peking Sunrise Lounge is a chinese restaurant in the front & a lounge with 8 Kim Steel tables in the back. Also The Club on the main strip there has probably 15 Robertson Black Max tables and a full bar. Both located in North Conway.
