Laminated shafts time frame?

I have never worked with laminated shafts. What is the realistic time frame to turn one down? I wonder when you buy a blank that is in the almost finished stages, how long it has been in the process? I.E Predator or the OB shafts. They may turn them pretty quick, I wonder.

How long does it take to go from (approx. 1" to .750" taper x 30" length) to a playable 14mm shaft that won't warp?

I've been thinking about having a cuemaker friend of mine make a break shaft for me out of this: http://www.cuestik.com/store/product.asp?DEPARTMENT_ID=120&ITEM_ID=5970 Other suppliers for this laminate?

Any advanatage of the flat laminate over the pie type construction?

I know what you mean. I was always under the impression the laminated and pie shafts speeded up the process. I don't know about some of that 1 year time frame. When I start turning a shaft I know buy like the third turning if it is going to stay straight. Some will warp no matter how long you take.

6 weeks in between turns taking down .025" is a popular practice somehow.
Laminated ones can take less time if the laminates have already been sitting for a while . The thinner the wood, the faster it reaches equilibrium .
Flat lams are heavier than pie-shaped lams for the most part b/c they have more glue. They are also cheaper.
I don't like them b/c there are too many pieces coming from different boards/trees.
 
As a frame of reference, I buy all of my shafts at 1" diameter.

1) 1st turning is to .700" (at the small end)
2) 2nd turning is to .650"
(the 1st 2 turnings are cut with 2 weeks rest in between)

3) 3rd turning is to .600"
4) 4th turning is to .575"
5) 5th turning is to .550"
6) 6th turning is to .530"
(the last 4 turnings are cut with 1 month rest in between)

This is a minimum of 5 months from 1" dia to .530" dia. The final size (.512") is achieved by sanding. Many cuemakers take as long as 2 years.
I have been making flat laminated shafts for about 10 years & have taken short cuts & they have all warped, because of it...JER
 
I haven't never used a flat laminate shaft, but I used the pie shaped one's several times. It takes the same amount of time a any other shaft for me. around 9 months to a year.
 
I have been making 6-pie laminated shafts on and off for over 11 years. Once as a test, after waiting about 2 weeks for the glue to dry I turned 2 shafts to finish in one day. One warped, the other stayed straight and I played with it for several years. Normally I let them sit for about two week before I turn them round then take at least 6 months to turn shafts to finish. Because I started up again about 3 yrs ago I had a large number of them that were over 4 years old then, bout 7 years nowand almost to size now.
