i took this post from another thread, I'm not so sure how this will be responded to, i'm not judging anyone here, its not about anyone. I just thought it was some interesting thoughts, and i'm tired of everyone MY SELF INCLUDED awalys appologising, or sugar coating what they say, watering it down so not to hurt someones feelings, people seem so sensitive now, i'm guilty of it too, but watching CNN and all these people hedging their opinions so they can change them incase someone is insulted is just pissing me off. I'm not a racist, or some white pride guy hell I like everyone. and I like to be nice to people, all people, but I was thinking about this and pool gambling, air barrels, robbing people in bars, playing on the lemon, business, everything and looking at the casino's here in Vegas busting everyone...so here is my thoughts-i'm open to harsh critism and my mind is open to correction.



I agree with Jay, nobody who plays pool for $$$ is a saint, all this PC shit that is inflitraited our society, having to pre empt everything thing we say not to hurt someones feelings clashes with larcny or gambling, I got raked over the coals here for my business pratices a year ago by the same people who celebraite busting someone gambling??? It didnt bother me but it is ironic in some ways. Its cool to rob someone playing pool, but God forbid I call up someone and tell them to send me all of their $$$ and bust them, whats the difference??? And I havent done that since 96, the biz I had was legit anyways.


Robbing suckers in a bar playing pool is a criminal act when your a player, me playing Buddy hall would turn Buddy into a criminal because I have no chance, most of us looking for a edge, does that edge make us criminals? yes. I yelled out at the top of my lungs at the Derby in the action room to flip for $10,000 you could have heard a pin drop, no edge no action, yet the same people who wouldnt take an even bet with me go to asinos and have the worst of it???? But had I yelled out I'm giving anyone in the room 9 on the wire to 11 everyone there would have played me for everything, right? thats larceny if there ever was.

for example you cant be in America and Russia at the same time, you cant be honest looking for a fair pool game and looking for a edge at the same time.

maybe I cant spell but I did go to philosophy classes and I do pay attention to peoples moves, I didnt get where I'm at beibng dumb. Danny D made a comment 30 years ago about trying to robbing millionaires "those guys didnt get rich being stupid" or something like that.

I have never on here said that I was anything but a small time hustler. I played mostly in bars, and yes most of the scores I made were from people that had too much to drink or too many drugs. I wore uniforms, dyed my hair, and acted drunk to get their money. I never went looking for the better players to be king of the hill...trying to become king of the hill will get you broke real fast. If that makes me a criminal, so be it, I was one outside of pool anyway.

But most of what you say is true. Since I can't play anymore I feel for the poor lambs that get fleeced everyday, but if I found a magic pill to make me well again I'm sure I'd be right back out there in those bars hustling as before. Johnnyt
 
I have had this thought in my mind for along time but didnt write the post because I just didnt have the words,

I promised a fitness thread last week and I will right that but my head isnt there to express it right, I wish at the time that thread was active I had the time, I will write that thread soon,


I will make a post here more about gambling, I just wrote in another thread, I really hope this thread gets some ontrary opinions or addiotioal thoughts, its better to study the mentality of gambling than talking about someone getting air barreled or what ever because if you do your homework you wont get air barreled-hopefully.
 
my take on Casinos

All legal Casinos do is undermind their customers under the pretence of winning when you have no chance, and suggesting its a form of entertainment. Nobody plays to lose, so the customers dont have good intentions either, they are looking to take $$$ from the casino for nothing in return. There is no dignity in gambling. I have seen casion's destroy-my exgirl for one she blew a million in the past 4 years and is all but homeless, are the casino's gonna help her stop, or fix the harm she has created? never. brutal.

A unrestricted gaming licence in Nv is a licence to print $$$. You might be right about having alot to learn, I dont know you and wish you the best, but never think any gambling is on the square. Best of luck-it does take along time to learn all the angles, and 20 something years later i'm still learning.
 
a few random thoughts.....

NO ONE is forcing anyone to gamble! if you go into a casino not knowing how it works.....thats your own fault! the casino is what it is, and is more then happy to teach you the odds. Our own faulted greed gets the better and you trick yourself into thinking there might be a chance to win big. I'm not sure why you have such a hatred towards casinos Fatboy?.....its like hating ice cream and candy makers for packing 30 pounds on your butt :)

gambling at ANYTHING sets the stage of 2 or more people BOTH feeling they will win, which sounds to me like both are trying to steal, but only one will......sometimes its an even match.

being a player and feeding on bangers can be looked at all sorts of ways. I've done it.....it's been done to me! life goes on.



scratch off cards, bingo, lotto, stock market, 401k's, football pools, bookies.....it's all gambling with the house generally winning....BUT, the house ALWAYS lets everyone know when the little guy hits! :)
 
You find two kinds of people inside a casino:
smart people and
dumb people.

It easy easy to spot the smart ones.

They OWN the casino.

agreed with your analysis.I have few additional comments.First please read my signature.playing a game of pool for money and robbing a unsuspecting grandma is wrong but it is not wrong to beat and take the money of a regular pool player.remember he tried to rob you too.He is not a unsuspecting customer.

Do you remember those Three card monti and Shell games on the pavements of the streets of Mid town Manhattan, NY.Yes those operators are con artists.but what about the passerby who stops to play that game? isn`t that passerby greedy and trying to rob those poor operators of the game who do not have money to go to the places to eat beyond Mcdonald and no place to sleep?

The late George Carlin said it perfectly when he described all this soft, PC-crap as the "pussification" of America.

I was at work the other day talking about one of our employees, who's blind. I was explaining to a colleague who did not know her that she was the blind lady in so-and-so department. This other lady told me the word "blind" was a bit harsh. WTF?

Oh, we can't say fat, retarded, handicapped, cripple, deaf or dumb anymore either.

Slightly off-topic but I totally get your point. There is a lot of hypocrisy in pool as it relates to gambling.

I once heard a guy tell someone else "you gamble like a gentleman, always ready to raise the bet". This statement seems illogical and/or contradictory, IMO.

Good post, and thanks for being honest about your opinion and not worrying about being flamed by the easily-offended crowd.

Straw that broke the camels back for me was when some freinds of mine witnessed some "gamblers" beating a retarded kid out of his bicycle in Lansing, Mich. Anyone out there part of that 'action'?

For all the woofers out there trying to badger someone weaker than you into "gambling".....that story is what I taste in my mouth when I hear you talk.

A very good friend of mine started going to Vegas regularly several years ago. He had made BIG money in real estate and he enjoyed the whole atmosphere of "Vegas". At first he would only take five or ten thousand with him and have some fun and blow some dough. Pretty soon he was a "Whale", where they were wining and dining him, and comping him on everything. He stayed in luxury suites, ate in the finest restaurants and had anything he wanted while he was there.

Meanwhile he was blowing six figures on every trip. Now this is a wealthy guy, but losing money like that is just plain stupid, and one day I sat him down and had a talk with him. I told him he could do a lot of good things with his money, and why should he give it to the casinos. He confided in me that he had lost over a million dollars that year. All cash!

I told him that if you like gambling so much, then be the HOUSE! Buy stocks in casinos (which he did) and play their side of the bet. He now is a partner in several large sports pubs in Nevada that all have multiple video poker machines. I think they can have up to 35 machines in each. Fatboy would know better than me. And he is building a hotel of his own in Northern Nevada. Fatboy knows this guy too, but not as well as me.

The bottom line of this story (if there is one) that this same wealthy real estate developer gives tons (and I mean tons) of money to charities and good causes every year. A better use of his fortune I'm sure. And he feels better too. When he was gambling all the time five years ago, he didn't look happy to me at all.

I just wanted to post that ya most people who are associated with pool aren't saints and are looking to steal.

I will throw one name out there of a top speed shortstop player that I bet not one person will have anything bad to say about.

Larry York. I ran with him for a long time, staked him, ate at his house, was at the birth of his daughter, and even all the people he beat, I never heard a bad word about him.
