Larry Nevel trickshot challenge???

does anyone know why this guy doesn't compete in the trickshots events we see on ESPN?

I'm not a huge fan of these events because most of the shots performed are "set up" shots

But with sombody like Larry at the table, you'd see some astounding stroke shots that his opponent would have a snoball's chance in hell of pulling off.

Just somthing i thought i'd throw out there.:D

They have a format on the shots you must choose. You have to shoot more than just stroke shots. You must shoot a couple shots from every discipline. This is to prevent a guy from shooting 10 different jump shot's to win his match.

Your right though Larry Nevel has the biggest draw shot of any one I ever saw. I wouldn't pick him to win an event like trick shot magic today. Too much to learn in such a short amount of time. Now, if Larry chose to play trick shots full time, then who knows. I'd make bets on him after six months.

We are taking members in the Trick Shot division of pool A.P.T.S.A. For those of you out there that are interested. PM me I'll tell you all about it. The first event you could play in is in March of 2008 at the Super Billiards Expo.

We are also looking for other possible event locations. If any room owners out there are interested......PM me or you can call 704-624-0647 after 5pm before 10pm eastern US time zone. This is an international sport so don't be discouraged from calling from any where. Absolutely anyone that's wants to play can come give it a try. Just pay early, spots in most tourney's are limited, due to time restraints.

I would like to have one in Pavel's country sometime. Someone out there know how to make that happen???

Someone asked Larry why he doesn't play any of the trick shot events when we were in Philly for the Super Billiards Expo this year, his response "They can't handle my shit!". Not only does he have the best stroke in pool, he might be the funniest guy out there too.

Honestly, I'm not really a fan of any one pool player out there. I'm just friends with Larry and I hate when people underestimate his game.

I don't think it is a case of everyone underestimating it as much as it is in you Overestimating it.

Maybe. But how come only people on these forums think Larry is supposed to lose the games that I've talked about but the people that are involved in them think differently? Maybe people like Shane are overestimating Larry too. Maybe.

I think Larry is a great player. Top 10 in the US probably. If we are talking about all around player then top 5. I saw him play Bruce in Athens spotting the 8 in ten ball and he came out 4 games ahead. That being said, the talk about him being able to beat Cliff at one pocket or Shane at ten ball with no spot and a long race is just silly.

Larry has a great stroke. Some of the trick shot mavens are pretty close though. I've seen Mike Massey, Bruce Barthelette, and Semih Sayginer shoot some unreal draw shots. I doubt there's much to choose between those guys. I suspect they could match Larry's draw stroke a fair percentage of the time....could Larry match their masse', carom, and jump skills???? With practice I'll bet he could.

OK. Next Action Challenge is SVB vs. Larry Nevel. You put up his $10K if you think he can hang with Shane. You're the one that put his name in your post.

Or were you referring to Shane Smith, the guy in your local pool league?

Don't mistake the most powerful stroke for the best stroke. Larry can hit some incredible shots. Mike Massey in his younger days would have been at the same level. Look at what Massey can do, and he's 60. We'll see what stroke Larry has when he's that age.

You are making the wrong bet here. No one you mentioned has a chance in the draw catagory, today. Mike at one time sure.

Larry can masse, we had that dicussion before, and he would give any of those guys a run in the masse. I don't know about carom billiards Larry and myself have never been around a carom table at the same time. He has the stroke...

JN,
Errrrr, I think you misunderstood......the only bet I was making was that he COULD compete if he chose.

On the other hand, I also think that the trick shot artists have a definite chance of competing with Larry (though I respect your opinion and knowledge in this area; certainly your credentials are superior to mine, I base mine on just what I've seen).

Saying that Larry could learn stuff in 6 months that Sayginer and Yow have taken years to perfect and master is a little insulting. Larry is truly a great player with an awesome stroke, but don't tread on these other guys to make your point. Sayginer can do things with the cueball that must make Larry's head spin, too.

Let them play an all around: One Pocket, 8-Ball, 9-Ball.

There is a real good chance that Larry would agree to that.

How about Larry play the next all around (14.1, One-hole, 10-ball) with John Schmidt or Harriman? Would there be a really good chance that he'd accept that?

Larry plays better one-hole than Shane. Any other game, Shane's a heavy favourite.

Actually, this would be a great next Action Challenge! Let's get JCIN on this one.

Get rid of the one-pocket. 8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball challenge. Or, Shane gets weight on the one-pocket, and gives weight on the 10-ball.

The all-around is one of the things I'm going to mention to Larry when I get a chance to talk to him for more then 30 seconds.

I'm really intrigued by the "all-around" between Shane and Larry in 8-ball, 9-ball and 10-ball. I think 14.1 isn't either guys' game, 1p is a lock for Larry, and 10-ball is a lock for Shane. In an 8,9,10 matchup, I'd bet on Shane for the 10-ball, but the 8 and 9 ball could make it interesting with Larry. Hmm.......................

Calm down Mr. Armstrong. I said "If Larry Nevel shot strictly trick shots for six months, I would bet on him playing in trick shot's." I would gladly tell every one of those gents that in person or I allready have. I don't know if they got insulted when I told them.

I don't hide between the lines, I just say what I want. If I wanted to say the words you read into my post, I would write them.
