Larry Nevel vs Johnny Archer

Match is over

Just got home from the match, and Archer did indeed win it. They finished at about 12:45 AM.

It was a great crowd, and it was good to see some of you guys there.

I went to the match last night and it went like this. During the warm up pre game practice, Archer broke about 10 or 15 times and never made a ball on thew break. Larry looked loose and ready to win. The place was crammed with people and the smoke was thick like a money match usually is. The trash talking was loud and the money was flying. The pool room was ready to bet on their home town champion. Archer came with more than 20 fans that were plump with money and ready to place it on the world champion. Archer wins the lag and runs the first 2 racks. From this point on Larry could not make an out, a jump, or get to the right side of the next ball. He missed shots that he would normally make with ease. It was clear that Larry was feeling the heat from Archer who was running out every turn and playing perfect position. And for the money Archer was breaking perfect with his cue ball squatting in the mid table and making the same ball in the opposite side 4 times in a row. It was the 3rd ball on the right side under the 1 ball. It crossed the table and went in the side like it had eyes. Larry had several opportunities to get out but he made poor position on the 3 1/2 inch pockets and suffered miss after miss. Now on the hill Archer dogs a ball and Larry is running out to stay alive, but a routine shot on the 5 .

I heard this table was tight, but 3 1/2" pockets? DAMN!!!!!!

I don't think I've ever heard of pockets being that tight.

was missed and Archer was in position to take down the money. Archer spent about 5 minutes on the shot to ensure the win. He only had to make the ball and the rest of the rack was a follow the dots. It was a thin cut and his only obstacle was the side pocket after the cut, banking off the rail. Well sure enough he scratched and Larry got out. Larry broke with no luck. Archer went right back to running out but like the last 3 or 4 racks he was loosing his cue ball. He was coming up short and long, he was on the right side instead of the left, like he managed the shot, he was shooting balls in the side instead of the corner like he intended, but still making the most important balls. Now to get back on the hill he dogged a routine shot on the 9
and sure enough the Larry Truth came alive for a few minutes. He got out, broke and ran out, made a 10 on the break and it started looking like a real match. Archer now was totally lost with his cue ball and the tight pockets must have looked to him like a coffee cup to a bowling ball, he started dogging routine shots and Larry looked like he had a chance. I had enough and left with Larry at 3. A couple of hours later Archer took down the money I heard from a friend with his money on Archer. Pool sure has changed. I guess its the lack of action that caused this poor exhibition.
