Sad to hear Poolsharks is closing down. That was always my go to room when I went to Vegas.

I will be heading to Vegas in Jan and want to try and hit balls atleast one night while there(to keep me from spending all my time in the casino).

So what room(s) do you suggest?

I would love to go to a place that has Diamonds or atleast real nice GC tables, drinks and some food. I will settle for nice tables and a vending machine if I have to.

There are plenty of choices if you smoke but only one that I know of if you want non-smoking.

Good timez is non-smoking.
Gorilla cafe has DIamond 9ers and at least seven 3-C tables.
The folks that work there are great.

Was there for the Mosconi Cup, and went to the Cue Club, Pool Sharks, and Good Timez.

Thought the Cue Club was kinda ratty, but ok I guess. Good Timez is fine, if a bit generic feeling. Both have Diamonds.

Bora,

If food is an absolute necessity, there are no pool rooms that fit the criteria. Nevada smoking laws. Good Timez is smoke free. Nice Diamonds big and small. Cue Club has one big Diamond, four small Diamonds and seven of the nicest GC II's courtesy of Ernesto. Shark's will be closed by the time you arrive. Mickey's Cue and Brew has several big and small Diamonds. Last time I was there, the tables were clothed in something other than Simonis and played poorly IMHO. Might have changed though.

Don't believe the BS about Cue Club not being safe. No less "safe" than any other business in Vegas. On the plus side, Lotus of Siam is located a few doors down. One of the best if not the best Asian restaurants in Vegas.

There are two alternatives as well. If you are into bar pool, at the corner of East Tropicana and Spencer, Rum Runners is one of Vegas' best known locations. Six small Diamonds and the Badger Cafe attached. Three doors down in the same strip plaza is the Gorilla Cafe. Although the management primarily caters to billiard players, there are a few big Diamonds available.

When in January are you there? My return date is January 5th. Will be there till the 13th. Would love to meet up. Mostly play at the Cue Club but I'll travel to meet you. If we play, I'll need lots of weight. I'm old and decrepit  . Need a new tapper and my dark glasses are in need of replacement  .Hope to see you soon.

When are you getting there?

Call Gilbert up. He'll shoot around with you.

If you don't have his cell number, text me.

Lyn was dead on with his advice. Keep in mind that smoking laws in Vegas are much different than everywhere else. The only places to play that are smoke free is Good Timez and Gorilla Cafe. Neither has food. Let us know when you're coming to town and maybe a few of us can meet up.

Gorilla café sounds interesting I do enjoy 3c, don't play it well but like the game.

Sir I have seen you play you get no weight from me. You are lucky I'm not demanding weight. LOL
Right now I scheduled to arrive Jan 11th and leave the 14th. Not sure what my schedule will be because I'm there for a work convention and my boss will be in town also.
Would the night of the 11th or 12th work for you and or banditgrrr to play?

Bora,

Have VNEA Monday night and ACS/BCAPL Tuesday night at the Cue Club. Usually done by 9 or 9:30 PM each night. Let me know where you guys are playing and perhaps we can make it a threesome :p :sorry:

Spent 15 years travelling to Vegas each January for the Consumer Electronics Show. No matter what people tried to tell me about how much fun Vegas was, all I remember is meetings at 8 AM, work, work work and dinner till 11 PM for a week. Lots of fun eh?

I am there for a trade show and just have to spend some time with my boss since he is paying for the trip. We have travelled many times before and he knows I always like to find a poolroom a few times.
I plan on doing the show Tuesday from like 9am to 4pm maybe grab dinner with the boss and then be free.
Why don't I trip to come down to the Cue club Monday after I get in?

I'll be there. Monday night VNEA is a small league. We start around 7 PM. Finish around 9 PM. Most everyone there knows me.

Gorilla café sounds interesting I do enjoy 3c, don't play it well but like the game.

I was there for the Mosconi cup and played 3-C for hours. Only my third time playing but I had a great teacher with Stu(sjm). The smoke was crazy thick but like I said the guys that ran the place were cool and they maintained the tables very well.

I was there 3 weeks ago (and coming again in mid Feb). I pretty much observed the same thing. Good Timez is as nice clean hall with good equipment but doesn't have the character of a Hardtimes or Chris's. My only beef with playing in Vegas is I always have a difficult time finding a sparring partner. Everyone expects me to be some sort of road player or on the hustle.

Just a business guy in town looking to pass the afternoon.

Lyn,

Thanks for the games tonight and it was great to meet you. Sorry my game feel off towards the end but the plane ride caught up to me.

Jim...banditgrrr says Gorilla Cafe is nonsmoking, and you said the smoke was thick. Which is it...smoking or nonsmoking? I know Good Timez is nonsmoking, as I've played and taught there several times, but haven't been to Gorilla Cafe yet.
