Last Mark Wilson Nut Hug

I never had much of a problem pocketing balls until my last big stroke. After I rehabbed for about six months I bought a BB to be a little active again. I was shocked that I couldn’t make a ball more than a few feet from the pocket and couldn’t draw the ball an inch. I had lost all my muscle memory from the stroke. After buying a bunch of books and DVD’s and asking 100’s of questions on here, I slowly got back to my “A” game.

One thing I noticed after studying and using Mark’s book is that I almost always hit center pocket now, unless I need to cheat it. Never was that accurate before. My shots even sound different when they hit the back of the pocket. This tells me for sure that my stroke is just about perfect now. Thanks Mark. Johnnyt

Right on, Johnny.
After reading Mark's book, I worked on fixing a lot of details in my stroke and stance and was playing the best pool of my life for several months.
Then, like an idiot, I loaned the book out to a friend and haven't been able to get it back. I reverted back to old habits and have been playing like crap for the past while...

A very good friend of mine, Jimmy, is flying to St Louis in 2 days to spend 4 days with Mark. I'd rate him as a B- player that was @ a D+ 9 months ago. To say he's excited would be an understatement. (And he loves Mark's book and says Mark is always generous with his time on the phone).

I can spot him the 6, but something tells me that spot is gonna require an adjustment soon. I'll ask him to post his experience here. Lucky dog!

That would be nice if he posts what he did here. I would love to do it...

Johnny, what do you think led to the improved accuracy?

KoolKat- - please have your friend share his experience with Mark. I too am trying to schedule some time with him.

It was a lot of little things (I thought little). for the most part I was doing most of them good enough so I thought I had a pretty good stroke. I tightened my bridge up, practiced a loose grip for hours until it's natural for me now, slowed my warm up strokes way down and cut them down to 4 from a lot more on most shots. I have read about all of these thing before...many times, but never videoed myself just for PSR and stroke to really check if I was doing everything right.

This book was just easy for me to see that EVERYTHING is important. I'm glad he didn't write this book 50 years ago or I might have tried the open tournament trail and probably have no wife and kids, no house or car, or enough money to retire comfortably on. At this point of my life this book is the silver bullet for me...but you need to read and practice everything in it. No skipping around. JT

Mark was here in town for the state tourney a few weeks ago. He was doing demos and playing for charity or something like that. I had a good chance to see him do this thing.

I watched him stroke. I especially watched his grip hand/arm. His is a light grip, just enough to get the cue moving. He never rushes the stroke or twist or grips while stroking. It almost seemed too simple. But that's all it takes, apparently.

What I was happy about most was that I've been trying to use that exact same stroke and grip technique the last year of so, so I'm glad that I'm on the right track.

Hello all. This is Jimmy...KK9L's friend. Yep, I'm gonna spend the weekend under Mr. Wilson's microscope. I fly out tomorrow. He has been extremely supportive and open during our talks the last few weeks. A true class act. I promise to post when I return on the things I learn. I am getting to be a little long in the tooth, so hopefully he can teach even us middle aged guys!!
The 6 ball KK? Hmmm....I need the 5! For those of you that have never seen KoolKat play.....he's a monster!!

How about a match up of two non-woofers? KK9/JoeyA? You got to watch the quiet ones in almost everything. JT

2) who's @ St Louis that he can play?

Yesterday, I just finished reading the stance chapter and didn't have time to work on it before a friend came over to shoot. While shooting I notice my right foot(Im a righty) was on the shot line. To be more exact, the shot line ran just behind my toes. I moved my stance just a little over 2 inches, so the shot line was at the very tip of my shoes. Then wham! All my shots were hitting the center of the pockets. Just from moving my foot 2 inches... I can't wait to read and practice his 3 chapters on fundamentals...

This is something I do too and he lists it as a very common error in stance.
I do it too. I am very square to the shotline like a snooker stance, not sideways like he seems to advise.

I have tried moving my rear foot backwards so it doesn't cross the shot line.
But it feels tough and unnatural to me. I can't say I shoot any worse when I try it though.
But so far, no sudden jumps in shotmaking.

I am going to work at it some more though. There's at least 10 things I know I can improve.

Thank you. Doing good. Went from couldn't walk, talk, or feed myself to just some memory loss. JT

I guess now you're gonna say you don't remember that two hundy bet you lost to me last year.

(I just figured you was short so I didn't write up one of those nasty threads that seems to be all the rage these days and would just wait until your wallet started to pop from all those Spring landscape & spruce workers getting busted from you on the table.)

Hi JohnnyT. I am in Houston on a loooong layover to St Louis, so I will push KoolKat a little about that match with him and Joey while I wait! And I will let Mr Wilson know you are doing well and you are using his book! Hopefully he can get me out of this slump!

Slump my ass! Since you got Mark's book a couple months ago and slept with it, and practiced with purpose (and perhaps got a tip or two from someone ;)), your game is in a rapid incline. Who cleared the table on hill hill, final UPA league match of the season for our team to finish 1st by 2 points? That'd be Mark Wilson's protege.

Good luck dodging the tornadoes at 35000 foot altitude.

Jimmy, I'm in St. Louis but my wife's birthday is this weekend so I shall be occupied. I told KK to send you my number --- feel free to call or text if you need local guidance or a good bail bondsman while here :-)
