Last Pocket 8 Ball Questions

First Question: My oponent's last ball is close to a corner pocket. The 8 ball is froze to one of my balls and has no pocket to be made. I have no way to pocket a ball nor I have a good safety play with one of my balls. So, I pocket my oponents last ball.
He has ball in hand and calls a safety. I told him that he must first choose a pocket of his choice. He indicates that he will choose a pocket after he plays the safety because he wants to first see the lay out after his safety.
Must he first have to choose a pocket before he shoots at the 8 ball ??
Second Question: If my oponent makes his last ball in the same pocket as mine, then I can pick any pocket(beside mine) for him. Correct?
Please advise and tell me under what rules are you making your assessment.

If you make his last ball in a pocket, that's then HIS last pocket. Second, if your opponent makes his last ball in your pocket, he then has to take the opposite pocket as yours.

I disagree. The way we always play last pocket is that you cant shoot your last ball at your opponents pocket, if you make it there, it spots and the opponent has BIH (foul ball). and also his ball should spot if you shoot it and foul and the same time, which it is cause you hit his first. ...Maybe...
 
RKC is right, this how i always played, in Puerto Rico this is how it is played and most states i been to on the eastcoast. I never played it with BIH its hard enough to play without BIH.

Thanks for your responses.., but no one is telling me who established such rules. Is it the BCA?? WHO and where can I find the written rules??

That's how we played in Germany as well. Back in the 70/80's 8 ball last pocket is all we played with the locals gambling:grin:
 
I've never seen any set rules and would I would be surprised if there were any. I've always went over what rules we were going to play with before the game starts.

Hello Glenn,
It is not fair that if you make his last ball in a side pocket then that becomes his pocket. The issue whether it was intentional or not is a very debateable issue.
 
If you travel to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. EVERY bar plays last pocket. Standard game. If they have a bar table tournament. It's last pocket too.

They play the way Glenn outlined. Whatever pocket your last ball goes in IS your last pocket, regardless of how it got there. They also play bar room rules where it would be unsportsmanlike to not make an honest attempt at your own ball. A brawl could ensue if you pocket you opponents ball on purpose.

If you are gonna play last pocket with BIH rules, I think it should be as close to regular BCA or whatever BIH rules you're playing by. In that scenario, if I pocket your last ball, THAT'S your pocket BUT you get BIH.

Anything custom better be agreed up front or if a change is made it would start the next game.
