Layer tip installed wrong way... Any difference?

Just had someone install a tiger onyx for me but I'm pretty sure he installed the tip the wrong direction... There is no red ring at the lower part of the tip and the top of the tip has a red ring.

Do you think there's any meaningful difference for me to bring it up with him? If the red part is a different leather maybe I can shave it down a bit so it's all the black leather but I'm not sure the composition or if there is any directionally to the tips.

The red is just dyed leather so I'm told, it will probably play the same.

If he supplied the tip, then yes he should replace it. But i guess someone who makes that mistake and allows it to leave the shop isn't a pro. That red line was meant to let you know that the tip was getting low and needed to be replaced.

I supplied the tip to him. It's his hobby and does it for beer money, does a way better job than the actual retail shop.

I don't mind it being backwards if performance is the same since leather is not the same front and back. Then again, since the leather is scuffed up, not sure if it would just perform the same front to back.

Installs tips for beer? Sounds like he has had too much business lately!

It wont make a difference. It's the same leather with a dye added. Really it's just a gimmick. I dont need a dyed layer to tell me when a tip needs changed.

I played with an Onyx for a while... until they instantly doubled the price with M.A.P. pricing. It's a good tip... just not THAT good.

Always installed my own tips, for just about ever. I sand the tip base down along with cleaning and sanding down the ferrule for a clean landing area for the tip. Few dabs of gorilla super glue on the tip base and then the ferule and lay the tip on and with my thumb hold the tip on for a slow count of 100. Getting into old age now and the last tip I put on about a month ago had slipped when the tip was being held down, which meant the center of the tip was a bit over to one side. Well the tip was on solid, I just left it on there and waited over night and shaped her out. Being off to one side made no difference in how the tip played what so ever. That tip being upside down isn't going to mean a thing either.

It be more concerned with what he did to your ferrule.

Ferrules are white.

This will probably make Fatboy explode.
I just noticed that. Did the guy leave the carbon fiber pad on the maple ferrule? I cant tell in the pic. If not, make him do it again. You cannot use an OB maple ferrule without it. You will NOT like what will eventually happen.

OB stopped making those ferrules about two years ago. You wont be able to get it replaced.

It’ll take some adjustment since your draw shots will now be follow and vice versa.

Lou,

I was going to post the same thing until I saw you beat me to the draw. At least one of us probably needs to go see a professional!

Bear in mind that all of those thin layers are split hides to begin with. I don't know if they are careful which side is the outer side or the tip may consist of right side up and upside down layers to begin with, who knows?

I would be more interested in if the layers were from near the outside of the hide or the inside. Also where it was at on the animal matters. Some areas are much thinner and softer, some areas heavier and much harder and tougher.

Leather being an organic material there are countless possibilities when we get something made from leather. One reason for the high price of layered tips installed is that bad layers in a tip can be encountered. I have had tips come apart when crowning them or just trimming them. A layer rips apart.

This is why I prefer single layer tips for my cues. If the tip is good there is no risk of good and bad layers, it is good from top until it gets so thin it noticeably affects the hit.

Unless you know a guy who knows a guy and has a cousin who has a friend that knows a guy. A little different but very effective.
