Just about everyone who uses them does. Le Pro's have always been high maintenance. Kind of like my first wife.
Don't despair. If you're hitting the cue ball out on the mushroom you may well be miscuing regardless of the tip.
Better to invest in a modern layered tip.

As long as I've been playing, you could go through a box of fifty and only find 5 or 6 good ones. Mushrooming was ALWAYS one of the major problems with Le Pros. Try Triangles, much better tip for only a little more money.
I used them 4 a little while but had the same problem I like the triangle for a non layered tip.I have to cut them halfway down but mine dont mushroom
The three at the top of my list are: Kamui, Moori, and Everest.
Le Pro's are still good tips if they are handled and installed correctly. It is best with these tips to press them in a vise before installation, however, I press all tips before I install them. This will stop a great deal of the mushrooming you are having trouble with, and it will also allow you to identify the tips that are not worth using.
By pressing them tips that are bad will flatten out or crack and just be throw away. Normally, I press them half a turn of the vise handle, if you can press them farther than that they are no good and should be thrown away.
I also a durometer on all my tips even before pressing to check the hardness, and again I do this with all tips including layered tips.
Oh and by the way, applying Super Glue Non-gel to the side of the tip after trimming also helps keep the side of the tip intact.

Actually...the problem with LePros began with The Color Of Money. I did an awful lot of tips during that era. Before, I'd find one or 2 bad ones out of 50, if that. I'd place them on the flat of a metal vise and tap them lightly 20 times or so with a hammer then install and shape them. They'd mushroom either not at all or almost imperceptibly and last a year or so. Held their crowns well too. Played great as well. Then with the surge in pool after the movie they must have changed the manufacturing process to bang them out and meet the demand. I was lucky to find 2-3 good ones in a box of 50 after that.

Try buying a box from J & J America the tips I have been getting from them are vary hard, and I have not seen much of a change over the last 4 or 5 years.
