Learn with an aiming system or not

Those who live in the past have nothing going in the present.

So I know you like to revel in past glories but the world has moved on and people today have more resources to learn every aspect of the game and use their table time in more efficient ways than you had. Thus players can get better faster if they are dedicated.
Furthermore...the up and coming top action players of this era aren't working 24/7 to wind up being loser alcoholics by sucking down whiskey, beer and cheap muscatel wine at every opportunity..
They TRAIN....like athletic performers should.
Their minds are open to new ideas and experimentation.
Players who lived their lives, staggering around, like Greenleaf, Watson, and many others were microcosms of a dead and bygone era.
An era the billiard world is better off without...and good riddance, in my opinion.

Yeah, they cut the years at the pool hall by working on their skills.
Not learning air pivots for a decade and still not be clear about it.

Even though he was an alcoholic, Greenleaf was still one of the best EVER at straight pool, back when they had the World Championship on 5 x 10 tables. Won it 20 TIMES. With a crazy sidearm delivery. Good riddance? Maybe the reason pool has been on the decline is there is nobody like Greenleaf. He was as big a star as Babe Ruth was to baseball.

All the modern equipment, smaller tables, better training... can anyone today do what Greenleaf did for the 20-30 years he dominated straight pool? Maybe we'll see...

Both you and Barton are certainly hung up on alcoholism!..I doubt the ratio of drinking/non-drinking pool players, was any different from one era to the next..That is a completely unrelated human condition!..I like to joke about my drinking, but it has never controlled my life, nor my desire to improve at pool! (or anything else for that matter)

Obviously, todays up and coming players, have a lot more things going for them than their predecessors, what with the internet age, endless streaming, and all!..But they still have to have the dedication and desire, to develop the necessary skills to become great players..That will never change!

PS..I would certainly hope you have improved since your sig line days, 'Cochran's in 1957'...Poor Barton seems to be stuck at 'APA 3 level'..and he doesn't even drink! (but he does love him some CTE) :embarrassed2: :p

Those who live in the past have nothing going on in the present. That's you.

You can live in the present while still honoring the past. I'm not trying to marry Ralph Greenleaf, but I have deepest respect for his accomplishments. You can use all the revisionist history you want, combined with your "ignorance is bliss" mentality, but Greenleaf's legacy will still survive.

Besides, everything we perceive is in the past. Everything you do is based on everything you learned from the time you were born to today (unless you have Parkinson's or maybe had a full frontal lobotomy). Everything humans are, is so because of what our brains passed on through millions of years of evolution. Even as I type this, my thoughts have already become the past. Everything we've accomplished is in the past. We don't give ourselves credit for what we think we're going to do in the future. Unless you're some kind of clairvoyant, your quote is foolish and naïve.

Greg I am going to do a very special video for you and the arrow using some posts you have made. I will directly quote you and then discuss your assertions.

Don't waste your time.

Let me ask ya something.........would you like to be misquoted?

How come you only quoted that part and not the whole statement that shows the context of that qoute?

I'll tell ya why.....you have no character, no honor. You are a on line bully.

What's priceless about GoldenShower's comments about Greenleaf, is that in speaking with Hal, he mentioned that Greenleaf was actually the first person to ever mention a centre to edge aiming system. He is the guy that Hal paid homage to when he talked about the pivoting aiming system. As I said, priceless :)

You claim that your aiming system training had significantly increased your pocketing percentage. I'll dig up the quotes if you want. You also claim to currently be an APA 3. I can dredge those quotes too. What was your rating BEFORE learning your aiming system? 1.5?:D

I wish dat drunk hillbilly Greenleaf wuz around today. Nothing but an old side swing stroking over rated farmer...that's all. Holding that cue all sissy like. YUCK!
I'd rob that Greenleaf, take his old Princess too and put her to washing and ironing my only shirt.

1.5 sounds about right. How about you?
