Exactly. Any ball is allowed to touch the solid parts of the table (rails, cushions, pocket facings etc.) and then if returning to the playing surface the shot is not a foul. But if any ball touches anything that is not considered a solid part of table like lighting fixture, chalk, rake, wall/ceiling, waiter/opponent, beer glass, chicken wing etc. then shot is always a foul.
 
On the original post, I totally agree that Mezz Kai is a killer break cue. I have tried a few with CF shafts/butts, but still prefer my Kai. :love:

The carom people are more picky. If the ball hits wood, it's a foul.
 
I will take a different reasoning to this situation. Both balls are NOT resting on the flat of the table so therefore they have to exist somewhere. That somewhere is IN THE POCKET. Maybe not at the bottom of the pocket but IN THE POCKET. The shot is good and the player continues shooting.

There is actually a technique of jumping the cue ball off an object ball up onto the cushion so that when it rolls back off or comes down on the nose, it moves away from the rail. But to stay up there? I guess often enough that you saw it happen. ;)
 
Weird after 50 plus years of playing we rarely see something new.

Was playing nine ball yesterday and my opponent missed the three ball and left it deep in the pocket. To make matters worse the cue ball ended up behind another ball. I shot at it with masse to try and hit it and went right around the pocket clearly missing the three. The cue ball went four rails and landed with perfect shape on the 4. Just as the cue ball was almost coming to a rest at the far end of the table the 3 ball fell off the shelf into the pocket. In all my years I have never seen anything quite like that one.

I’d argue the toss that you made the ball haha
But in reality, If you didn’t contact the ball, it’s put back in place and free ball 😂

We talked about that but it fell while the cue ball was still rolling so I believe it's a good shot according to the rules or lack there of as it was the intended target ball and the lowest one on the table. And there was no 100% evidence I didn't contact it even though it didn't drop as the cue ball zinged around the pocket. I continued on but failed to get out:cry:

Like I said I have never seen that in all my years so I am not 100% sure what the rule is or if it's even a happening that the rules cover.
