Hmmmm. What would I use the Leather Rings for? Would they be hard and stiff enough to use like regular Rings? Or would I need to impregnate them with epoxy? Might be interesting to try at the Butt Sleeve but not sure if I'd want to use them anywhere else.

A good question deserves a good answer. Might I say a picture is worth a thousand plus words?

You can core and bore and stack. Make a great leather handle and by using differant color leather it could be the stand out part of the cue.

Id be intrested in the rings but id want a much larger ID. Id hate to have my handle that skinny.

I was thinking the same exact thing. Has a nice look to it though. I wonder how thin a wall you can use without affecting the leather?

Tom, thanks for posting those pics!

I think everyone knows due to the 48 hour rule Juan (MadMan) can only PM.

If Juan is reading this however he could go in and EDIT his initial post and explain more and give the sizes etc.

I am greatly complimented by the thanks for posting the pictures but I look at it this way, we are all in an industry that if unique is out there we need another bullet for our gun.

How bout if they were impregnated and you could do a wrapless cored cue with leather as forearm and buttsleeve and a wood handle?

How bout a Brown Leather Forearm with Real Black leather points?

I'm so excited I am thinking of kicking one of my tenents out so I can move in and make cues again.

I hope you mean the ID is 1" and the OD is 1.5". If this is right I would be interested in some.

Juan,
You might want to make some with 7/8" ID as 1" is pretty large for the wrap joint area. Just a thought.

Leather Weight

I have never tried to use that much leather at one time. How does the weight compare to say using a that as a handle compared to a curly maple handle?

Non-cuemaker here, so if my question is absurd.......Please flame me accordingly

How would these rings be replaced down the road when they get damaged, wore out, etc...

That is a great question actually. Without cutting the cue apart I see no way of installing new rings. It looks like a one shot deal.

I suppose you could split them.....

Ever sice I saw these posted in the cue makers forum I have been hoping to see some cues with real stacked leather grips. :)

With this sale going on, hopefully we will see this applied some. I look forward to pics guys!

Here are 3 I made about 10 years ago, and 1 that is not finished yet. The 2 black handles have been used daily since being made. The brown brown one was converted from a linen wrap a year ago. They wear very well, will get some scratches but fine sand paper gets them out. The hardness is about that of a hard tip. When stacked and glued on the core I compress them on the lathe using the tail stock while the glue dries. A 12" handle requires about 13" of rings.
