leather tip for break cue

i have tried the samsara break tip and i like it.what else out there that i can try for my break cue?i just hate the phenolic tip on it and would like to replace with a leather tip.any suggestions?thanks in advance!

i've got a leather tip on my j/b cue made by az's own madman1nonly. its really hard and it breaks the rack well and jumps the ball as easy as phenolic does. i keep mine a little flatter than most to help reduce spin.

i highly recommend trying the guys tips out!!! at a minimum try the break tip he makes. imo better than the samsarah. how is it better? i don't know i just like it more.

I have

a J&J Break/jump cue with 2 shafts, so I had one of Bob Owens super 'Dubs' put on one of the shafts when the BCA had outlawed phenolic tips for breaking. I like it real well. It offers more control when breaking and/or jumping. It was only $20 to have it put on.

Does anyone know if the G-10 is legal to use in BCAPL

Le Pro pressed

I use a pressed Le Pro on my break cue and really like the tip. I press my own with a special press I bought on eBay and my workbench vise. I leave them pressing for about a week. Works well for me.

i've been pressing wb tips for awhile too....i agree, they come out great. and cheap to make! i soak mine in mineral spirits first, then put it in a picone tip press cranked real tight in a vise overnight. the sucker will come out hard as a rock. not quite as hard as the samsara, but still breaks and jumps good. holds chalk a little better and has a bit more control. i use them mainly for breaking for more control, but go with the samsara and various others for jumping as they're a little bit harder.

Why mineral spirits? Are you just trying to harden the tip? Or are you also changing the texture of the leather? Why mineral spirits and not just water?

thanks

I used to soak my leather tips with superglue years ago to make them hard enough for a break cue
Lately i have been using something like this

pressed black WB is what I like best for breaking and it jumps great too.

I recently tried a Talisman B/J tip on my X-Breaker and was impressed with it's performance!Although I have now gone back too the G10 that an X-Breaker comes with.If your looking for leather I recommend a Talisman.
Go too my blog and search Talisman for the review I wrote.

i am not really sure what it does actually, i heard this trick from someone else and gave it a try. you might very well be able to use other liquids as well, like people do with milk duds and water duds. i've tried dry pressing them and that doesn't produce bad results either. the mineral spirits does seem to harden up the tip more than dry pressing does. the texture of the leather doesn't really change.

one theory i have of why this produces a harder tip is that wetting leather tends to soften it. like when people trim a newly installed tip to size, they often wet the sides so that it cuts easier. so i think wetting the tip softens it and allows you to press the tip more than if it was dry. and when the leather dries it seems to retain its compressed state, where dry pressing the tip seems to bounce back a little more. some liquids perhaps are better at softening the leather than others. i haven't really experimented with a lot of liquids other than mineral spirits for wb break tips and milk for elkmasters.
