Leaving chalk upside down on the rail?

I've seen this done so often that I really think some people do it on purpose. Same type of idiots talk on cell phones while playing.

Frankly I never paid attention to how I put the chalk down but I NEVER use a cell phone while playing.

Never paid any mind to how I set the chalk down. Then I spent a few days with the "old man on the mountain" he quickly pointed the fact out that if I didnt put the chalk down on its SIDE the rails would not get so dirty. In my defense; I would like to say putting it on its side is a result of being in rhythm and how I hold the chalk in my finger tips. Also, I do wipe off the rails if I see some dust on them.

Ive never set it face down that just doesnt sceme right it would be upside down.

I would like to ad "keep all your damn chalk(s) off the table. Now that REALLY bugs me. We dont need 5 cubes of chalk all over the table so I have to move them out of my way every fn shot. I use 1 chalk, I take it with me from my chair to the table, and back when my turn is done. If I come to the table and there is a bunch of cubes, I ask the guy if he has his own. If not I take all but 1 off the table. If he wants 2 or 3, when I come to the table I take all of them and put them in one spot.

I noticed that no matter how many chalks are on the table they end up in the same spot most of the time anyways so why bother putting them all there

I hate it too!! I don't like the chalk anywere on the table because it ALWAYS ends up in my way. I mainly just play at home now and I have a couple of little shelves around with coasters, ashtrays, and chalk and thats where it stays!!!

AZB = The land of crybabies???

You guys seem a little emotional over some blue powder.

The "chalk stealers" and "chalk after miss" guys, I agree, kind of annoying. But there's a simple solution to that, just steal the chalk first. And cell phone players, they're easier to beat.

Watching long-time players leave the chalk upside down on the rail drives me nuts!

Does this bother anybody else? (If I'm alone in this, I'll get counseling)

YES......................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I once had a friend over for his frst time on my table. I had camel colored cloth. So naturally I use like color chalk. I started to notice these chunks of dark gray dirt like materila on my tables cloth and rails. He was using some chalk that came Marlboro Cigarettes. That stopped shortly after.

It's not that it can't be cleaned up it's the lack of respect from that person. I also had a friend that once set his drink (ice, sweating drink) on mt tables rails and I didn't notice until later that nigh when I was cleaning up................OH THAT BURNED ME! So much disrespect!

It bothers me.

I play regularly with a guy who just can't stop doing it- I've mentioned it a few times, but it's a habit he can't break. He's a local 'made man' so I don't bust his balls too much about it, though.;)

It doesn't bother me as much as guys who don't re-rack their weights at the gym, though- that makes me nuts.

Wow, I forgot about the players who use baby powder instead of talc. Another group of uncaring players! I HATE cleaning the cloth after a "powder" user has played. They feel they've been wronged!

Lyn

It's not the use of baby powder that's the problem; A lot of pros keep baby powder in their cases. The problem is the overuse, or even the abuse of the baby powder.

But I know what ya mean. When there's like 50 different little piles and streaks of the stuff all over the table, and combined with the blue chalk mess, it's lookin like the start of a jackson pollock painting, it's too much.

I was banging some balls around with a former US Open champ who will remain nameless and noticed that he kept putting the chalk down on its side. Not as bad as upside down but still enough to make me crazy.

There were two pieces of chalk on the table and as an experiment I would flip them both straight up before I shot/while I chalked. Without fail he would put one or both back on their sides during his inning (which always seemed to last considerably longer than mine).

I never did say anything :D

I figure if you win the Open you can put the chalk down however you like.

Normal people however......

Why go out of your way---just casually knock it off on to the floor and forget about it. Just use your one piece of chalk. If the player says he cant help setting it down that way ---just say you cant help knocking it off.

No reason to leave it upside down and leave chalk all over the rails.

Proabably just a sharking move..........

i dont mind if the chalk is upside down on the rail, I dont do it-but if it happens, I dont care one way or the other.

A friend of mine picked me up from the airport once, in the morning. We wanted to play some but it was too early for our regular pool hall. We ended up at a restaurant type pool hall. Pool was not the main attraction, but they had like 4 Olhausens.

The chalk was all garbage, but I had some good stuff in my case. My buddy--who plays really well--refused to put the chalk face up! I asked him to, and he just said NO! Drove me nuts that MY chalk was being treated that way.

Here in Korea we have a bigger problem than chalk though. Coffee! Every pool hall here gives free soft drinks and coffee with table time. Customers constantly set the coffee on the table and spill it! Never soft drinks, only these little coffee cups! Inevitably they get spilled. Awful. I've told the workers they need a sign on the coffee machines, but they haven't done that. I doubt any customer who I've caught does it again. It's kind of scary for Koreans to have a foreigner run up and yell at them! Of course, I _try_ to be nice about it...

Only beginners and clowns turn the chalk upside down on the rail! Think how much better Efren would be if he learned to turn the chalk right side up.

Hu

... he did stop the smoking bit, did not he ???:rotflmao:

I am a down side chalk hater as well...

I've never actually seen anyone do this, but it would get on my nerves. The only reason why I can see someone doing this is because they grab the chalk without looking at it and don't wanna do what I do every now and then which is stick your finger right into the chalk. Even though I hate that I still leave it face up.
