Leaving chalk upside down on the rail?

Yea

I hate it. Whats worse is when you turn all the chalk right side up and your opponent comes up for his shot and walks around and turns every piece upside down then shoots

Speaking of annoying, now that I'm started. I played a guy from Venezuela in Vegas in 2000. He had his own chalk at his table , by his chair. When we started, he took all but 1 piece of chalk off the table and placed them on a table near us. This guy chalked before every single shot, which I had no problem with. The annoying part was, he left his chalk where he was sitting and walked back there every shot. The match went hill - hill, but I finally got him.

drives me nuts

Does this bother anybody else? (If I'm alone in this, I'll get counseling)

Some of them like to bang the chalk upside down to get as much of it as possible on the rail!

Don't throw it

I play a guy pretty often that leaves the chalk down so the table is covered, next time Im going to throw it across the room just for you guys!

haha. maybe not.

It ain't the chalks fault. For all you guys who know someone who does this, try this. Go to the bar or bathroom, get a paper towel or napkin, and wipe the rails down. Every time you come to the table and a piece is upside down, wipe all the rails down. See if they get the hint. {Unless of course, the guy is the size of a football player, and has a bad rep for fighting over stuff}. This post is not meant to get anyone into a fight.

It is probably the same people that put the fag on the rail, and a bear in the pocket.Either way ,it shows no respect.

Cigerete on the rail beer in the pocket.

This practice is no longer done in the U.S,that I am aware of.

beginners and clowns

Only beginners and clowns turn the chalk upside down on the rail! Think how much better Efren would be if he learned to turn the chalk right side up.

No, it's changed

Now, they have the cig hanging out of their mouth, dropping coals on the cloth,{being Simonis, the nylon melts.} and the drink is now on the rail. I made 2 people just last week take their drinks off the rail,{and I don't even work at that bar} Actually, it's been this way for years. And occasionally, you still see the beer in the pocket.

I'm glad somebody started this thread. I thought it was just me who HATES that when a player leaves the chalk face down on the rail. And I mean HATES! Usually when a guy does that, he manages to turn every piece of chalk face down every time he runs a few balls.

If I'm playing a guy who does it, I will ask politely at first for them to leave the chalk face up. What's strange, they usually say okay and then they keep right on doing it. I will be a bit more stringent the second time I ask and the third time, I am pissed! I will often tell a guy that I am going to quit him if he keeps it up. And I have too. Yes, I have taken the chalk and heaved it across the room. I get tired of cleaning the rails every time it's my turn.

I have also taken all the chalk off the table, except for one piece. Like so many responding on here, I don't like getting chalk all over my hands, arms, clothes etc. when I'm shooting. The guy who leaves his chalk face down does not want to play me. He will get a very stern lecture at some point. What's weird, the guys who do it don't seem to be able to stop. It's become a habit, a very bad one. I've had guys "try" to remember to set the chalk face up, and after a while it all goes face down again.

At this point in time, if I'm playing a match with a guy who does that, and I've told him not to, I will stay in my chair until he turns the chalk back face up and cleans the rails before I will go back to the table. Believe me, I have done just that. I tell the guy I will shoot when he gets the rails clean, not before. I am tried of cleaning up after him. I'll sit there all day if I have to before I go back to the table. This is one lesson they begin to remember.

I'm a little pissed just thinking about it now. :frown:

What about the players that take every piece of chalk back to their seat? Same thing, no matter how many times you ask them to leave the chalk at the table, they will keep taking chalk to their seat until every peice of chalk is by their seat. So you grab all the chalk from them put it back on the table, but within couple of racks every chalk will be by their seat, and I find myself grabbing all the chalk a bringing it back to the table again. This problem is compounded when the same guys manage to put the chalk upside down on the rail in between their shots.

Shows complete disrespect for the equipment, the game, and your fellow players.

Scientific evidence has proven (beyond any doubt) that these players also do not wipe.

OK, now thinking about this,I am trying to figure out what that brown smudge was on the rail:frown:

Yea, I hate it also when they put the chalk upside down, the brown rails turn to blue and it gets all over you.

I never gave it a thought and used to leave the chalk any old way. I mean in most pool halls there's chewing gum embedded in the ripped duck- taped rug every two feet, spit on the walls, cigarette burns etc-nice clean chalk was an improvement.

Anyway when i found out it bugged so many- I reformed.

I use to play with this guy that not only put the chalk upside down every time he shot but he did it with authority making sure whatever dust might be left was deposited on the rails.

Chalk uoside down

I grew up playing in a very old school pool room where the median age was about 60 year old playing Golf & Pay-ball ring games & those old men would tell you to learn proper pool etiquette or get out of the game. Maybe we need some more old men.

Now you got me! :) And I can be grumpy too.
Actually I also feel it is important to respect your equipment, and that includes your cue, the table, the balls, chalk and everything else.

No, it's not just you, it's lazy and annoying....it's also disrespectful....when I had my table at home, I wouldn't allow it there, so why would I ever do it anywhere else....

Bunch Of Nitssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll second the motion to bring back the old school days and the old guys, who tell ya how it is.

well after reading 3 pages of complaints, I thought long and hard....don't know if I've seen this done?? I played in a (local weekly) tourney last night (on very 6 very nice Diamond barboxes), and know I didn't see it there....I use absolutely as little speed and English as possible, so I don't chalk a whole lot (and miscue only once in a blue moon). If I would get chalk on me other than the little bit that gets on my bridge hand, I'd probably get tickked too though!!

I saw a gut try that at 3B's in Zelienople Pa, before the smoking ban come in. I mentioned to him to please keep the beer away from the table, he took no notice of me.
Lucky the owner saw it, and kicked the guy out. Some locals were getting a hard time because of the marking in the pocket.
We are better off with that type of person not using the table anyway.
It does not matter the age of the equipment,It just shows that there are some people just don't give a damn about other peoples property.
