Less expensive Joss cues and quality?

Would love to see a photo of it. I'm guessing Cole played with it for a time?

It's not a show cue it's a working cue.

The shaft with stitches in the ring came with my wife's Joss. The other shaft was made from a broken bar cue by Roger Petit. That's my playing shaft. The shaft is slightly fatter as I played a lot with the big cueball. Changing shafts would give a completely different hit.
Cole had 6 shafts and 2 butts when I purchased the cue from him. 200 bucks.
The butt was broken by Cole while it was across his shoulders with hands draped at both ends. Too much Stolies And slightly crooked grain.

Repaired by a competent wood worker. (Cole 😉).
The off color butt extension is my own invention. Adds minor weight and gives just a tad more reach. The chip in the old butt piece occurred dropping the butt to floor when the rubber bumper was worn out. Shrug 🤷‍♂️.

I love seeing stuff like this. I wish there were a lot more of these real world cue posts!

What were his specs?
19 ounces and ivory ferrule. The length was 58". A pro taper of the shaft was standard Joss. He went through 6 shafts to find a favorite. My touch wasn't quite as sensitive as Coles so his #6 shaft worked fine for me. Pretty sure that's the shaft my wife uses now. Roger made me the one that's my favorite. His ivory ferrule made from an old ivory cueball was his first so he gave me a Hella deal on the price. Roger was a regular at the legendary White Spot Wednesday night 9 ball tournament. He took orders for custom work. Custom work on vanity cues took forever but it was such exquisite work. A player needing work on a working cue got it the next Wednesday. 🤷‍♂️

Check with kissshotbilliards on Ebay. I Brought a Joss Cue from Him, very sweet soft hitter and at a good price! But on a Flipside .. I do have a few Earl Strickland's '90 CueTec cues.. I might let go of, for a fair prices!

Since my 2 year old Cuetec Avid has a crack, and it seems fairly common, it has left a bad taste in my mouth for ever buying a Cuetec again. I'm thinking of going back to a maple shaft and have been looking at a few different makers including Joss. I'm looking at something like the JOS02 cue and it seems to be on the low end of the price spectrum for Joss. My question / concern is that these less expensive models might not be to the Joss quality as some of the others or maybe they're imported from China and just have the Joss name on them. Can someone let me know what to expect from this cue quality wise? Thanks as always!
Just call or visit Joss Cues. They will get you what you ask for.

My local pool room sells a ton of entry level JOSS cues, from sneaky petes, to plain curly maple/linen-wrap/steeljoint. The quality is fantastic and they have a nice classic hit. Honestly, I just purchased a new Meucci Summer Series with PRO shaft to play with. Inexpensive, and I love the way it plays/feels.

I bought a "budget" Meucci too lately and I love it.

I do want to add a Joss to my collection too, perhaps when I reach some sort of pool milestone.

I love it. Is this your main player?
Yes, it's hit is oh so familiar after uh many many years. When the nicked Irish linen wrap came unraveled the name Cole and date was in ink underneath. Seems like it was '87 as my hands oil have worn away the ink now. The slightest difference in the size of the grip suited me so never considered rewrap.
Coles comment a year after the purchase was, "I wouldn't be able to shoot with that cue now. " Well his abilities were far more sensitive than mine. 🤷‍♂️ The ivory ferrule gives a feel unmatched by any other materials I have experienced. The Joss West cues with ivory joints as well are incredible. The ivory joint provides a lively feel while the stainless joint feels solid.
One other thing is a cracked ivory ferrule can be repaired rather than replaced. Acetone followed by super glue works for me.

PM me how to repair ivory ferrules. I have some with small cracks that I'd love to repair before they get worse, if possible.

Roger Petit made me a shaft with ivory ferrule. It was his first ivory ferrule and an old cracked cueball was the source. The ferrule had a slight crack on delivery and Roger pointed it out with, "if it fails I will replace. I used the Crack (and still do) as A front sight. Keeping the Crack as the side to strike whitey on any off center strikes.
My treatment of the crack in ivory started with acetone to penetrate then super glue. Acetone is solvent for super glue and my theory is it allows the super glue to penetrate as deep as possible in the fissure. So far so good 🤷‍♂️ But it's only been, uh roughly 35 years.
