Less expensive Joss cues and quality?

The fiber pad between tip and ferrule is important with ivory. The acetone super glue treatment has stopped the growth of the crack. The hit is solid. Still under warranty. 🤷‍♂️

did not matter too much to him as he could just call bill stroud and have another in a couple days. or danny i guess.
When I bought mine from Cole it was attributed to Bill Stroud work. His statement was well Doolie has offered 120 for it. My reply was 200 and sold followed. The next time I saw Cole he attributed it truthfully as Joss East as he was no longer in sales mode. It made no difference to me as it's not going up for sale and plays great for me no matter who made it. 🤷‍♂️

cole used to just say to me give me a 100. but all his cues were fairly basic ones. as he was getting them for free as fast as he got rid of them. i couldnt care less as he was a friend to say, and just gave him what he asked.

I have been playing with my Joss (east) since the late 80s. Ivory ferrule and stainless joint along with the taper and weight to suite Cole Dixon. The Irish linen wrap got nicked and I removed it to find Coles name and date in ink under the wrap. Coles style led to him playing against his cueI met in at times. His fondness for Stolies vodka contributed to his pawning habit. So Joss had his specs on file and could make another quickly.

I met Cole in 1984 at Ceasars in Tahoe, the night before the tournament he got upset playing Keith McCready and punched a post holding up the roof . His hand swelled up like a basketball . And he could not play.

I think the OP is looking at actual Joss cues. But just be aware that there are cues being sold as JOSS II or JOSSii that are NOT made in the US and are not affiliated with Joss cues.

As always, buy from reputable sellers.
When I first started playing again, first thing I did was go to my local hall and picked up a Joss. After all those years, I recognized that Hit.
Amazing how the Janes klan have been able to reproduce it across the decades.

I met Cole in 1984 at Ceasars in Tahoe,
Pretty sure that was my first pro tournament that I attended. It was 84. The year before Efren came to the USA. The drive from Tacoma had us barely getting there before snow closed the highway.
It was an incredible experience watching, admiring and learning. Dan Louie was our Great Northwest champion. I watched him playing Jose Parica twice. He prevailed at hill hill both times. Parica had been beating All Amercan players in events that year. As they were casing cues after a match, I heard Parica say to his adoring fans, "I am not the best player in the Philippines. 🤔
I didn't see Cole at that event. However in 85 when Efren played in the Reno event, I seated myself behind his Philippines handlers with a brief case (or 2) of money to wager. As the match between Ed Kelly and Efren was coming up, Cole strode up and said, "I bet a thousand that Ed gets to 7." Get to, were the only bets they could get as Efren had already beat everyone in Houston. Playing back to back races Buddy Hall was the only player to get a set. So the Philippines guys put their heads together then replied, "you bet a thousand Ed gets to 8. You bet 2 thousand Ed gets to 7." Cole turned and walked out of the tournament room. A few minutes later he re entered the room with phone to his ear. He said, "Okay 2 thousand Ed gets to 7." Ed was the only player in the tournament to get 7 in the race to 9 event vs Efren. His destruction of Earl the Pearl in the finals was epic.

My last cue was a Joss. It was very plain and hit well. I consider them the Toyotas of cues, Nothing fancy and do a good job at what it does.

My current cue broke. I'm looking for a new cue and traditional maple. How's that the latest and greatest?
Dufferin was my travel cue that I took when I flew. No way would I turn my Joss over to baggage at the airports. Dufferin was inexpensive and made of Canadian maple. It had a softer feel to the hit than my Joss yet was easy to adjust to.

OP - Bob Farr (on this forum) sold me a used Joss plain jane cue at a STEAL of a price....and dollar for dollar, probably the best money I've ever spent.

I have 4 Joss cues now. All late 1990s to mid 2010s. So consistently good in materials, build, and how they play.

I think garczar meant NOT imported. I have a Joss and it is a sweet playing cue. You can’t go wrong with any model.

Pictures? I wish I had that Nick Varner JOSS you had when we met at Championn Billiards 47 years ago in Shirlington, VA. :D

Oh, yeah....the Ebay mystery cue. That thing was cool, after Scot reworked the whole thing.

You're a Meucci man now, huh???????
