How much if we don't want the lessons? I just want to live with you for a weekend:D

hahaha

Okay Schmidt, here's the deal. If you see someone camped outside your house with a "John Schmidt is super dreamy" banner in hand..........don't let them in :D :D

Yeah, you may want to re-think the "Stay at my house for the weekend" deal. You never know if you'll get along with the person or not. Not too many things would suck worse than having someone you're not very fond of in your home for a weekend.

Did Dukeboy sign up or something......?

I figure that $300/day cash for anyone's time is pretty good. Figure in two nights at a hotel (min $100/night) and a dinner, transportation to and from the airport and you are getting close to your number. The real key is whether you can impart knowledge in that two days or not. If so, its the deal of a lifetime. If not, I can stay home and get screamed at by Marty Herman. :D ;)

I picture Easy running into John's bedroom at night saying, "I'm your #1 fan!" like in the movie Misery!
I read "Easy" as "Earl"!!! I just about busted out. Good thing I didn't, I'm at work!!!

[EDIT on topic]If I were staying at a top player's house, I wouldn't want to quit working after 5 hours a day. I might not want to put in marathon lesson sessions, but maybe after dinner we could just play some more. I don't mind being a rack boy.:) But personally, I would be disappointed to fly out and stay someplace for over 48 hours, but "play" (work, learn...) for only 10.

I don't mean to say this is a bad value. As other's pointed out $100 an hour is reasonable for a top player, especially with accommodations, food, etc... My reaction is more based on how much I love to play pool (and hate doing everything else) than on the price.

Still, an awesome idea John.

How many rooms does your trailer have John? :) I think you are doing this too cheap personally. To anyone out there who is considering this weekend of pool instruction, most of the top Pros recognize John as one of the best player/instructors around. Whith the savings on hotel and food while out of town this makes the deal even better. I was going to say "good luck John" but I think you will be booked out for a while and I think you MUST collect a deposit as things happen, people forget and make other plans etc. Great opportunity, stay and John's trailer and eat top ramen all weekend Whooo hoo,:)

Kudos to you John! You don't see many pros, hardly any, make an offer like this to the public. I think the price is very reasonable, and a 20$ non-refundable deposit is more than fair. You are commiting your entire 3 day weekend to this person and everything that you are including, this deserves a deposit and a little money for your "abandoned" time if he/she cancels.

For those that are interested in John's offer, I have some advice for you (from personal experience, but not with John)...
You're going there to learn and enjoy the weekend, otherwise you wouldn't pay for it. Go there with a WIDE open mind, listen and watch everything that takes place. If for some reason you start to day dream or get tired, tell John, I'm sure he'll understand and take a break. Otherwise the rest of the instruction time won't be as affective as it could be. Look at this weekend as a doctors visit. You were given some medicine, go home and take the medicine a few times each week and before you know it you'll start to feel better. Don't expect a miracle overnight cure, it takes time and dedication!

Side Note: the Panhandle is such a wonderful place to vacation and live. My family and I will actually be moving to that area in a few years when my wife retires from the Air Force.

Best of luck to John and all that visit him!

I thought Marty was barred from most poolrooms?

It was kinda said in jest. Actually, I get along pretty well with Marty, seeing him from time to time at the trotters. But when he did teach, he was a bugger! Joe T was the same way. They both wanted so badly to make someone better in those early days. Both have mellowed quite a bit since then. And we all know the genius that Joe T has turned into...

John,

When are you going to buy a house in upstate NY? :D
Awesome deal & I think you'll get a lot of feedback for this.

Good luck in your venture!

A deposit of at least 25%, maybe 50%, is necessary to protect yourself. Those that are serious won't mind.

I know John and I am sure if we had more time to spend together he would be a good friend, as it is now we know each other and talk occasionally, I will 100% vouch for him. Anyone who would take up him on this offer will be happy no doubt about it. No he didnt ask me to say this, if I felt otherwise I wouldnt say anything.

Second, John when I get my 12' snooker table up your more than welcome to come play on it-its the real thing not a 90 year old american table I wont charge you $1000 for lessions, my rate is $2500. ;) Seriously when ever your in vegas i'm less than 10 min from the strip. Its on me.
