Lou, the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship has always been seeded since I've been going. I think the UPA are the ones who originally demanded the event be seeded. :smile:

I don't agree, however, with *how* it was seeded, though; the method, if you will.

I am happy with your statement because, as you pointed out, no one here seemed aware that it was seeded.

Now we all know. That is good.

But, I'm not sure that it's good news for everyone. I mean, if you're an aspiring amateur, why would you now want to go play in a seeded tournament and take the worst of it on your entry fee? I'm sure it makes no difference to some guys, but it will for others.

So like I said, now everyone knows and maybe (probably) some guys will reconsider sending in their entry fees with said knowledge. That's a good thing.

All of us said as far as the seeding goes for this year we will just deal with it . As far as next year we will make decisions as to what tournaments are gonna be on our calender based on comunication with promoters !

So does this mean that next year, certain tournaments will be boycotted too if they don't allow seeding?

IMO, There needs to be a better way to negotiate a resolution to these disputes without resorting to ultimatums and boycotts.

I can tell you this for sure. Mike Zuglan ain't budging. He will run the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour the way he feels is fair, and that's no seeding.

No mention was made of seeding as being a issue.

Thanks for the correction, I knew that it was discussed but didn't go back and check exactly where it was first mentioned. As you later noted, it was mentioned in Barry's response, it was also brought up in the original thread, and I understand, is also included as a goal on the ABP website,

The issue is important, and the real question was what their position on the subject was, not when it was mentioned.

I support the ABP. They are players that I have loved watch play over the years, who happen to be some of the most talented pool players ever.:thumbup

So if you follow behind the ABP, you are sitting at home making nothing, or you can go to the US Open and get your money a few weeks later.

The way pool has been run for the last thirty years, everyone should be lucky they even have a chance to win anything. Obviously, the way it has been run is not working.
If this sport was run correctly it should have surpassed many many other sports in big business sponsorship etc... Even the ladies tour is run much better than the men's tour.

BTW, I think it is also why many young players from the U.S. will eventually give up aspirations to become a world champion (as they get to that age). As much as I loved the game, when I was 16-18 it certainly did for me. I looked around and saw most pro players (not all) struggling to make it, no insurance, living day to day, with a poor retirement ahead of them, and knew my best route in life was to go to college and have the chance at a better career. I really do wish the best on our sport, but the route it has been on for decades now, IS NOT WORKING!
