Let's compare balls!

Yes lets!

the new diamonds come with cyclops balls in the packages they offer. Most of the pool rooms near me have newer diamonds with cyclops balls. I have only played with aramith pros at home. Saying that, i can't tell a difference between centennials and the aramith pros in playability but the cyclops cue ball seems to shoot really light to me! It takes spin well and performs ok but Definitely different! Is it really lighter? What's the difference between them? And yes I'm using the search function also, but this is more fun!

Paul Smith from Diamond knows the composite specifics about Cyclop balls.

To you. It's a subjective thing, and I thought the cueball played lighter. This could be because I was playing on felt that was more worn, and without a set of Aramiths to compare directly to, I'm going by what I felt. It was also the more translucent style of cueball, if that makes a difference. I'm not saying they are lighter. I'm saying it felt lighter to me.

It's amazing to me that someone could tell me that what I was feeling wasn't what I was feeling, and do so with such authority.

I like your posts, Lou, but how something feels to one person or another really doesn't fall into an objective truth that a third party can decide.

Agreed about the subjective part, SAR.

Just by way of explanation: the last few years there have been numerous threads about the Cyclop balls, often started with a post about how they play light, heavy, skid more, throw more, throw less, roll off, the CB is translucent, the colors are bad, and anything else you can think of. I get the subjective part, but the facts are something else.

I have Arimtih Duramith, Cents, Arimith Pros and the Cyclops TV balls.

I like the Cyclops. To me they look nice and are easier on the eyes on my Simonis Blue. The balls hold their shine and chalks doesn't adhere as much to them.

Do they play lighter? Could be. I think it all depends on what CB you are using. If the CB is matched to the ball set the CB should play as you expect it to.

If the CB is heavier than the rest of the balls it will play heavier and not draw as easy or follow the tangent lines as epected.

If the CB is lighter it will draw easier and again not follow the tangent line as expected.

Some balls are more bouncy or alive and I think that is what you are experiencing with the Cyclops. Some balls are dead and don't bounce off each other. They act like playing with a ball made out of rags and absorb all the energy.

I think the best way to test the balls is to build a little ramp to roll a CB down to hit a ball and see how the balls and CB react. Record how far the CB and OB roll after each test.

Is the single dot the one where it looks 3 dimensional? It looks more like a button, if so that's the cueball I'm referring to! It's fun to play with but a little unrealistic to how it takes on the cloth

That 3D looking cue ball is the cyclops with the eyeball on it, those are the earlier ones.
I have:
Cyclops
Centennials
Aramith Tournament Pros (Duramith)
My Cyclops and Tournament Pros stay cleaner longer, no doubt. My Cyclops play pretty identical to my Aramiths and Centennials after they went thru my Diamond polisher a few times using Aramith ball cleaner, not restorer. All 5 of my Red Circle cue balls play like they Cyclops eyeball cue ball after going thru polisher.

That's a opinion, but be nice if you state why you think that ,

I have a set each of standard Aramith, Brunswick Centennial and Albany Hyatt balls and have played with all. They all react ball to ball the same. In playing at the DCC with the Cyclop balls I found this not to be the case. Afterward, I wondered if it was just me or the balls and contacted John Brumback and asked. He stated he agreed with my assessment and that before playing at the DCC he would work out with a set of Cyclop balls to make the adjustment.

The Cyclop sets ALL play beautifully. Personally, I use the new single Red Dot Cyclop cue ball with all of the sets I have. Don't be afraid to try something new - never know what you'll find as your new "favorite"

I bought the Cyclop balls a couple of years ago via a group purchase on the Forum.
I was one of the buyers that disliked the balls from the first rack of play. I am a very big
fan of Brunswick Centennials and it's my favorite pool ball design as you can tell from
prior posts. There's no set that looks as good from the past, or currently, for that matter.

I currently have two new sets of Brunswicks sitting on the shelf. I am about to rotate one
of the new sets into play and will sell the set I currently use which is free of nicks, etc. I
own a Ballstar and regularly polish my pool balls which helps preserve the condition.
Everyone has an opinion and is entitled to express it. Well, when it comes to cues and
pool balls, I certainly have mine & while it may not matter to some, it really does to me.

Don't like Cyclop balls.

I'll play with any Aramith set without complaint, and I suppose if nothing else was available, I'd eventually get used to the Cyclop set as well. I just don't think they are superior in any particular way. They play slippy and heavy to me. And the looks...Dear God, what on earth were they thinking with those colors?

Change for the sake of change is not a good thing to me. The roll off on the first video I watched featuring these balls didn't help sell them. I've since gotten to play with a set quite a bit, and while I can't see them roll off, the thought lingers in the back of my mind. I just don't trust them to do what pool balls are supposed to do. Every time I have a small position window I tense up in anticipation of the roll-off.

That's the ball I can spin like a trick shot artist! Ball to ball they play normal to me but I honestly feel I can do more with this cueball than I can with the others. And I'm not really sure how I feel about that! In person that dot looks 3D
