Libra Cues Info??

Hello fellow Azers,

I took possession of a flame veneer full splice, wrapless Libra, with an ebony nose and birdseye handle.

Cue plays ubeleivable. Actually its the best hitting cue I have ever had. Does anyone know what kind of taper they use? or any info would be appreciated.

They folded up a long time ago,but most all of their cues are prized and well sought-after.

What was interesting about them is they would make you a cue that hit like whatever you wanted it to hit OR look like.

Let's say you wanted a SW style butt but wanted it to have a steel joint and hit like a Szamboti,they would do it. No idea how but they were quite good as cuemakers.

Their own original designs were also wildly varied.

Never heard a bad word about their playability either. Tommy D.
 
Makes that ping if you know what I mean

I have one original Libra shaft. An Ed Young shaft, and an old 314 shaft with matching ringwork.

The cue just is an unbelievable player.

Their warranty sucked, they did not stand behind what they made!
 
Tough bussiness. Jack & Johnny just couldn't fade it.

I have one that I have had for about 15 years and it is an outstanding player, one of the the 3 best I have ever used (and I have had a buuuunch).

I had it for sale on here a while back and I priced it below value and had a few bites but nobody pulled the trigger, I was kinda glad because I really like the cue.
 
Hard to not play with these cues. When they play like monsters. I don't think I could just keep it put away.

he played with them a little,then he put them up.he has a very extensive cue collection.he picked up a Kersenbach (if that is how you spell it) at the same time he got the Libra's.

One of three cues that I owned, sold, and later regretted doing so was a Libra that I bought from John McChesney about 12 years ago. It was an understated maple / black / white 4 pointer that John said he thought was one of the last ones that came out of their shop. I don't know if that was true or not but man that cue was a fantastic player.
 
I was the original owner of the cue you bought from John. It is the last cue they made. I regretted selling it also. I saw it for sale on this site a few years ago and bought it back. It is back in my collection as my playing cue.

LIBRA CUES
Maker of cues in Dallas, Texas from 1988 to 1990.
Libra Cues were one-of-a-kind custom cues, made by Johnny Sanchez and Jack Potter in Dallas, Texas in the late 1980s.

I hadn't checked in here for awhile and was interested to see this reply. I'm not certain that this is the same cue although it's certainly possible. When I had it there was no leather wrap. I searched my old files and came up with a few pics, maybe they'll determine if it is indeed the same.

That is the cue I sold to John. It has the leather wrap on it now and possibly refinished. There is no doubt it is the same cue. I played with it for years before I sold it and it still plays like no other cue I have owned.

That’s very cool. If you have the time and the inclination to do so please post up some pics. I’d love to see what it looks like with the leather wrap.
