:D Joe Villalpondo has always been one of my favorite pool players and I got to watch his pool IQ DVD today on kicking and it was terrific. Joe is one of the very best I've ever seen teaching and his kick video shows you how simple kicking can be if you learn his system. On the video he has a lady and her young sons demonstrating the various kicks with great visual
and explanations by "Little Joe". Once about 15 years ago Joe worked with me for two hours and the next day I was runner up in a real tough tournament thanks to Joe's great teaching skills. Thank you, Senor, for this excellent kick video, can't wait until your next video.

I couldn't agree more, Jungledude. Little Joe's DVD on kicking is the very best kicking video I have ever seen. The info on the video can be converted to use with any pool, snooker or billiard table game. I can see hundreds of light bulbs popping up over people's head once they finally SEE the light. Little Joe makes it so easy to understand the diamond system and how to make slight adjustments on the cue ball with his clock system to make virtually any kick shot.

Yes, Little Joe, is a friend of mine but I have never and would never endorse anything I didn't truly believe in. Folks, this DVD is worth every penny. It will improve your kicking game.
 
I got it and I like it. But I won't share it with my pool buddies. It's the edge.

Hey Tanner, I sent an e-mail to the pooliq address and received a reply from someone in Iowa. They are asking for $39.95 plus S/H for the Lil Joe Kicking DVD. Can you confirm that these are the real people and not some bootlegger for me. Just want to get the funds to the right folks.

Joe Villalpondo is from Davenport, Iowa. He used to live in New Orleans years ago. I have told the story of him beating Reid Pierce the U.S. Open 9 ball Champion in a big tournament at Rackateers many years ago. I have reviewed the video and think that most everyone will enjoy the DVD and be able to kick better than ever. I like the overlay graphics that they used on the video. I went out to practice some of the kick shots on the video and was not suprised to see how easy it was to duplicate the shots on the video.

When Joe lived here in New Orleans we used to hang around together and go to tournaments and he had an uncanny ability that I have seen very few people come close to. (I haven't spoken to Joe in close to 10 years)When playing in bar rooms, Joe would bank a ball one rail and often times make it two rails. While most of us when we miss the one rail bank we normally come up short on the second rail bank, but not Joe. It was very common for him, if he missed the one rail bank for the object ball to go a second rail and find the bottom of a pocket. I never asked or I just don't remember what the reason was that he was able to make so many of these "second" railers.

Maybe he will share that in another video in the future. It really was uncanny.

Years ago I was in Nawlins and was playing at the Sports Palace I believe. They had a race to one tournament that had a decent following with a calcutta.
Joe was there and at the end of the tourney I was playing Blackie in the semi-finals with Joe waiting for the winner. Blackie won and he and Joe played.
Joe had almost everyone in the room in the calcutta BUT himself and he went up there and shot down Blackie.
Not sure if there was any business going on but Joe was a real likeable guy and was real nice to my buddies and I. He even put us on a score on the west bank.

Hi Frank,

I doubt if there was any business going on as far as Joe was concerned. All of the years that we hung out together, we discussed many personal things but never a hint of him doing business with anyone.

I'm pretty sure he has split the winnings with another finalist from time to time but that was simply to share the bounty not to screw someone else. New York Blackie was tight with pool gambling money and so I doubt that he was willing to chop up any monies especially if he thought he had the best of it. To see another complete opposite side of Blackie, get him on a dice table betting with the house's money and you would have thought he was Bill Gate's little brother gone bad, trying to spend or double the Gate's family fortune in a night.

Are you still trying to migrate back to AL? When?

I dont think there was any business going on. Everyone was laughing and
having a good time with Joe about beating his "horse" as he had Blackie
in the calcutta. Joe had all the top guys except himself. It was funny to see him win it.
Not a bad tourney either. Race to 1 with everyone playing even. I think it was either 10-20 to get in with a decent calcutta.

Yeah I am looking to get back but am not sure exactly when. I am going
back for X-mas and will be staying 2-3 weeks so I am going to do some looking around then.

Looks like the Big Easy will be spared from a hurricane this year. I am glad as another one would have really hurt the area.
How's things going down there?

Any of you NO guys remember Frank Haines' former girlfriend, Chris? Blonde girl, looked like Marilyn Monroe. Good player. Just wondering if she is still around.

the rebuilding in Metairie, Kenner and in general, Jefferson Parish is for the most part complete. New Orleans, Chalmette, and of course the Gulf Coast is still devastated with many people still sitting on the fence, stunned and wondering what they are going to do. My barber says the people are coming back, slowly. New Orleans is a special kind of place and it would be nice to see it come back better than ever.

You could always get a job doing construction and make a good living. It will be YEARS, many years before New Orleans is rebuilt to whatever level it is going to be rebuilt. Some areas have not been touched. I really don't see any of the billions of dollars that the government claims it sent to Louisiana. The levees are still suspect although all of the breaks have been repaired. Still the levees are not designed to withstand a hurricane level 4 or above. The federal government has spent OVER $65,000.00 for each FEMA trailer and there are many thousands of them around Louisiana, HOWEVER they are only worth a MAXIMUM of $15-$20 thousand dollars. The rest of the money is costs related to transportantion, storage, setup, leasing and pickup. It is one of the biggest mistakes the government could make. It would have been far better to give each impacted resident a $65,000.00 voucher to go buy another house and start a new life somewhere else. Hell, in some parts of the country you can still buy a decent house and small lot for $65 grand.

I am starting the rebuilding of my fishing lodge and have lots of work to do on it. Honest, skilled tradespeople are hard to find and complaints of bandits/contractors stealing money from homeowners are reported daily. But things are starting to get better. The casinos are packed with stupid people spending large amounts of insurance money (it has to be insurance money). Well, the contractors are making enough money to blow at the casinos so I guess it isn't all insurance money but is directly related to the insurance money one way or another. My business is stable although 50% of its size two years ago. Don't have time to add additional business while running what's left, playing contractor and playing pool. :-)

I think I remember Chris. Wasn't she a little on the slender side? If so I saw her a few years ago and her game wasn't the same as you remembered it to be, unfortunately. I believe she said she wasn't playing pool anymore. Frankie is married to another blonde now and they operate a very successful "gentleman's" club together. Frankie still frequents the pool halls but doesn't compete much.

I have watched the video my self and i can tell you it is worth every penny ! Joe is a Great Teacher he makes it very easy to understand.
I have met Joe a few times and was lucky enough to play some with him a few years back and i had a blast Joe is a very nice gent ! http://www.pooliq.net

Definitely should be in your toolbox!

I just finished the video and came away with a lot of useful info. I was especially impressed with the two rail kicking system that Little Joe and the Behnke family demonstrated.

His one rail system was good but I would have liked to see more of the variations demonstrated.

The three rail kick system was very good with the extended rail kick system as a bonus.

If I remember correctly the DVD has variations on 4 shots that are shot over and over. While I like the shots, most of them are explained better in Tom Rossman's videos and you get more in Rossmans videos. Just like most pool videos, this one does not explain that you need to reverse the shot if you were on the other side of the table. He sets a ball on the long rail, wants to kick 2 rails to the corner and says to use 10:30 english. Does a newbie know to use 1:30 if he was shooting the other way? Just a pet peeve about pool videos in general when they don't reference running english vs reverse english. This one is well made and the graphics help a lot. I am waiting patiently for his CUE BALL CONTROL DVD he talks about in the video

You bring up some interesting points, ndakotan. First, as I see it, the repetition of the shots are mandatory in demonstrating, Joe’s, “Clock System” because the object ball is moved to a different position after each shot. Thus the need to use the clock system to adjust. I agree with you that when shooting from an opposite corner pocket the mirror image of the “Clock System” ie 10:30=1:30 should have been mentioned but I believe virtually all who view Joe’s video will understand this. Especially with the one rail kicks.

Tom Rossman is a talented player/instructor and shoots all of his shots himself in his videos. One of the novel ideas in Little Joe’s video is to allow his 11, 15 and 17 year old students, as well as their mother, to demonstrate the shots. Example: Just pick one of Efren’s jaw dropping shots. Because he can make the shot and it is on a DVD does that mean an 11 year old is going to be able to make the shot with repetition, even though he/she can watch and practice it over and over? I don’t think so. Show another 11 year old shooting the shot and that 11 year old watching the video knows, with practice, he can make the shot too.

You are right about the graphics in Little Joe’s video. They are great. It demonstrates, visually, the difference between, inside and outside English and how English changes the natural rebound angle.

Buddy Hall isn’t going to pick up any helpful hints from Joe’s video but if you play under Buddy Hall there is a very good chance you can improve your game. I too look forward to Little Joe’s next video.
