The way Bob got killed was crazy. The black guy robbed the store and bumped into Bob on his way out the door. Bob was just coming in. They had words and the guy ends up shooting him. I liked Bob. We played some Horse on the B-Ball court at the hotel in Bend for $10 a letter. It was a gas! We were razzing each other on every shot.
The murderer was a real piece of crap in general having shot and raped a number of other people among numerous other serious crimes. The case ended up having a lot of publicity at the time with idiots coming to his defense. The accounts I've seen don't have him robbing the grocery store around the time of this incident though and the speculation is that he watched Bobby pay for his groceries with a $100 dollar bill (and possibly he caught a glimpse of the $6,000 wad it came from as well, who knows). At least one witness saw him intently watching Bobby inside the store prior to robbing him just as he left the store.

Bob Lambert was no dummy. I can’t believe he was that careless, but anything’s possible. Ronnie told me an entirely different story.

Yes, I'd agree with most of that.

You just have to step up when the opportunity presents itself. I know that sometimes, when I'm playing a big match and I'm confronted with the choice between a tough shot or ducking I'll ask myself, "Are we men or are we mice?" Then I happily go off and fire away, lol.

We live by the sword and die by the sword or in our cases our cues! There is a fine line between chump and champ and these decisions are what builds our character. At the end of the day, it's entertainment to me and "going for it" is a lot more fun than ducking. You duck when it's time and the situation calls for it, but it's just not as fun. As I've gotten older, money and winning are just not as important as they used to be to.

poolplaya9 has about the correct story. bobby had a gun to his head and tried to turn around. maybe to resist who knows and ended up getting shot once in the chest or front. fell back into the store and died right there.
