For purely selfish reasons, I would love to see the DCC in NOLA. However, we must retain the baby when we throw out the water, so any new location should be one which best accommodates DCC attendees. What do we know about DCC demographics and preferences? IMHO, this should be the starting point: who are we and what do we want, need, etc. Until such data is assembled and analyzed, we are just shooting in the dark.

Reno would be perfect. Move the DCC and start Sands Regent II.

Based on the attendees I saw this past weekend, a venue like Caesar's Southern Indiana is the absolute best we could hope for. It was a very nice hotel and casino, and willing to put up with all us pool player's...foibles. Having more tables or whatnot would be nice, but ultimately I can imagine many venues that are worse, but not many that are better.

What would be cool is a smaller more hardcore EW style jamboree Johnston city style event. When Greg tired Tunica which was a 2nd derby style annual event it didn’t work out well. Also that casino was a PITA too.

But I think in the South there’s room for another pool/gambler event once a year.

Not in Reno or an isolated area. Needs to be drivable

I posted this a couple of years ago, but it is worth repeating:

It was my first night in Louisville, and there was very mixed crowd in the action room (bar) and there was a much wolfing etc., and the three card monte dealer was giving it everything he had -- very deftly. From frat boy types to inner of inner city boyz, everyone was checking the others out. Eventually, someone says,
"I'll bet anything on a coin flip"
and all hell broke loose from all sides. A pair of young hustlers was pushing the bet hard. Finally, an older, lanky dude, seemingly from out west, says,
"Okay, I'm in for a $1,000.00."
One of the young guns says,
"Okay, but I get to call it in the air, and the flip lands on the floor."
The crowd parted, money posted, coin goes up, the call comes,
"Heads on the floor"
and the coin is down: tails up. The lanky guy attempts to collect, but the young guy stops him, saying,
"I won, I won -- heads is on the floor".
Eventually, the two young cats get paid, the crowd quiets some, more propositions exchanged, but a pall has been cast on the evening. Then, the lanky guy says slowly, very evenly,
"That was a stone cold hustle, and I want my money back"
and all hell breaks loose again
"I said heads on the floor, heads was on the floor . . ."
Then I hear something to the effect of, again slowly, very evenly,
"I don't know if you fellows mean to stay all week, but if you don't give me my money back, you best clear out now, because I am going to be here all week".
The young dude, somewhat chagrined, owns up and gives the money back. Now, all hell really breaks loose -- the quiet one of the pair is in his partner's face,
"You #$%&@(&, what are doing? We have waited years to make that . . ."
I never saw the two again after that night, but the tall cat was there for the rest of the week.
About 3-4 years ago I was able to check off attending the Derby from my bucket list. To say the least it was everything as I expected... action 24/7. One thing I distinctly remember was in the action room one kid was putting up everything he own (necklace, playing cue, j/b cue, headphones, his SHOES!, etc) and all his money (even the pennies) in his pocket to play ONE game of one pocket. He ended up losing that game (I ended up with his Meucci break cue). Glad I have my day job ;) As for the food situation... I would suggest making a trip to Trader Joes in Louisville prior going to the hotel. Load up there... also you survive in a hotel with a water boiler and rice cooker.

I’ve never been on any sort of trip where finding food was such an issue. This baffles me.

Uber Eats, no?

It just occurred to me: Nashville. It is a party town. It has the facilities. Cowboys gamble and they all shoot pool. Our image should be no problem whatsoever. Could be the home DCC has been looking for.

If they move it I hope they keep it Central like it is .............Kansas City would be a real good spot but I have a little bias when it comes to the location lol
It really has to be Kentucky or Indiana, I think moving it anywhere else loses its feel.

I watched him eat and leave this morning while we were at breakfast. Didn’t say a word

Total BS.

I didn't eat breakfast this morning at the hotel. Got a Starbucks 30 minutes outside of town on the way back to STL.

How can you make this stuff up?!

Ha, ha.......I'm pretty sure everyone wants: A venue with 250 Diamond tables, cheap hotel rooms, cheap food, cheap booze, cheap smokes, cheap drugs, and a total free run of the city. :ROFLMAO:
not me, i want one that is real nice and fairly costly, so those with money go there and have real gambling and good food and no crowds of lookers that do nothing for the action.
i want a gamblers vacation not a degenerates convention. good ones like some of the tournaments of old used to be partly at least.
it is what it is and not for me obviously.
