Above is the official Live Scoring of Women's World 9-Ball Championship. Hope they can update once an hour.

Well, I recognize the names, but how do you read this? For those of us who read English only, what is the format of this event? Is it round robin? Double elimination? Some combination of the two? I'm appreciative for this link, but need help interpreting the contents of the site.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Good luck ...

I think we may also be seeing the first effects of the IPT on womens competition here, maybe. No Allison, Karen, Julie or Gerda. Well, maybe not Gerda (I think she has final exams right now).

But Kelly Fisher is on the IPT, and she is playing in this tournament. Are you sure the IPT is the reason Allison, Karen, Julie, and Gerda are not playing?

In Gerdas case I'm pretty sure she is taking her finals and preparing for graduation. I think Karen and Allison are ranked no.s 1 and 2 in the WPA womens??? Sarah Ellerby is also highly ranked. I don't know??? Used to be the WPBA had so many automatic entries. I don't see any listed WPBA entries.
Without the WPBA entries most of the Europeans playing in the WPBA wouldn't be qualified under the EPBF.

Ga Young and Monica won their first. Kelly Fisher's match was over in about 10 minutes and im sure Kelly won.

Xiao Ting Pan, Wendy J, Jennifer B, Jennifer C, Val F all lose their first. This field is strong. Jeannie Seaver broke and ran 3 and still only won 5-4.

19 year old Rebecca Zhou (Zhou Meng Meng) ousted Monica Webb 5-4. Rebecca was 2004 World Junior Champ and currently ranked 12 in WPA rankings. Keep an eye out for her.

I was talking to Melissa Herndon last week, and the reason a lot of the top femal WPBA'ers aren't going is because there are back-to-back WPBA events. There was just recently the NC event, and the Great Lakes Classic starts March 8th.

So to attend the N Carolina WPBA event, then fly to Taipei and then fly right back to the WPBA Great Lakes Classic Tournament a day later is taxing. 15+ hours and a day lost in the air.

Dates for reference:
2006 Carolina Women's Billiard Classic: Feb 22 - 26
2006 Amway Women's Championship: March 1 - 5
2006 Great Lakes Classic : March 8 - 12

I heard the same. In the past, the Amway Cup had been played in early April, far more convenient for the WPBA players, as WPBA San Diego had generally been the only event on the WPBA calendar in April.

Unfortunate timng has watered down this field a bit.

The links in this thread don't work for me. I'd appreciate more scoring updates if anyone has them...most especially how Rubilen Amit is doing. Thanks.

The timing issue makes sense, but what happened to the automatic WPBA entries? The last Womens World event I think the WPBA had a certain number of automatic entries. Maybe they still do but it's unofficial? I don't think Helena was all that highly ranked in the EPBF and I think as far as BCA goes wouldn't that be the six highest finishers at the BCA open normally?

No, what you are seeing is the effects of poor scheduling on the WPA's part. The dates meant that players traveling from the WPBA Carolina event literally had to get off the plane and screw their cues together to play. That's why a lot of the top players did not go.

Anyone know if Videoland or any other tv statioin will be broadcasting this on the web - like the men's WC last year?

Thanks for the update calc. For some reason, that link hasn't been working for me the whole day.

Too bad for Amit. Hopefully she'll still get past the group stages. Maybe some early nerves got to her.

I like the 20 year old Austrian to do well in this one, she undefeated so far and should advance with ease. Karen isn't here to fluke the winning ball this year:rolleyes:

I was actually surprised that some of the top pros didn't make it even with the horrible scheduling on the WPA's part, the prize money for a top finish here is greater than any WPBA event. It's certainly nice to see some decent prize money up for a World Championship unlike last year which payed something like $8,000 to the winner, it's been upped to $20,000 this year. Good luck to the AZ girls in Taipei!
