Hello.....I am from Pa and I'm thinking about selling my house and moving to Florida. I'm thinking somewhere near the Gulf side of Florida, maybe around.....Tampa area..( but not in Tampa ) I used to come to Florida twice a year and Camping and Baseball games in March. I am looking for a place, maybe area Palm Harbor, not real close to Route..( 19..the nightmare traffic road. I'm thinking maybe Sarasota area and a little North of Palm Harbor and maybe a little more south of Clearwater. Also I am looking for a place where I can fish, when not playing Pool. Also not expense, but affordable and fish in the bay, by a small boat. Here in Pa there are a lot of Bar room 8 Ball leagues, and also looking for a Pool Room with different size tables and holds some bigger Tournaments. Maybe a small place away from the major Traffic of Route 19, but accessible to most areas, to travel and play in bigger tournaments. Inside of my house, I want a room big enough for a 4 1/2 x 9ft Diamond table.....maybe a smaller place, with the option of creating a game room for Pool etc. I just want a warmer place that I can enjoy myself, with Pool..Fishing, and this to be my final move for me. This would be a place just for myself, for now....but do not want into a retirement home development, I just want my own house on my property, and live out my years. If anyone would share any information in what I'm looking for...could you please respond on here or a PM...I want to thank anyone up front, that might might offer an idea, or any other solutions to what I'm looking for, Thanks

We lived in Largo for 3 yrs. Lots of rooms in the area. Ray martin was usually seen in CN`s.....

Cape Coral Florida diamondbilliardsroom.com lots of pool and plenty of fishing.

Look into a few of the active retirement communities (ages 55+). We are much more active than people would think. In our community we have over 150 activities and probably 20 - 30 different things everyday from tennis to cards.

We have four Gold Crown IIIs in our billiard room and there is often (not always) someone to play with. Most of the communities have similar facilities. In our community there is a pool match every day from 12:30 until about 2:30 with 12 - 16 players every week day. We also have a traveling league and some of these guys are pretty good (D - B+ players.)

We have a marina on Lake Harris with about 100 or so boats docked. The boating / fishing community is about 50 - 100 people strong. Not the ocean but the fishing is good.

I lived in NE Ohio on the PA border and people up there retire and get old quickly. Down here, not so much. About 10 - 15% of the people here are single and there are opportunities but little pushing. I like to tell people its like summer vacation in high school every day. The slogan at our community is "have a great weekend everyday."

Great suggestion. I live in 55up retirement community. The ClubHouse has 4 9ft Vitalie tables. Alway something going on. Informal in-house competition and we have a team that plays other communities. I'm from Pa.

I'm in st Pete and love it. I have my choice of five pool halls (CM's, City Billiards, Side Pocket, Corner Pocker, Crooked Cue), tight, loose, leagues, casual, small action, assholes and wondeful people.

I live on the beach (Treasure Island) and the world is my oyster. It's like a holiday every week. Beach, boating, fishing, swimming, or doing nothing.

Freddie <~~~ rode the Harley to work in 70 degree February weather this morning

I was in Clearwater forever. I loved it there. You have plenty of pool rooms around the whole clw/st.pete area.
I was there this past November, saw crooked cue for the 1st time. Nice place and great owners Buddy/Janet.
You also have a great owner at Strokers in Jose. They are rather close to each other as well.

You cant go wrong living in this area. The gulf is better then the Atlantic as well in my opinion as far as the beaches are concerned.

I want to thank everyone gave their input on my questions and it sounds like the perfect spot I'm looking for. I'm getting ready to make a move, and this area sounds perfect. This is the place I came to every year for vacation and spring Training for baseball. Now all I have to do is sell my house and find a place I can afford, because I am retired and disabled from Migraine Headaches. I also thinking that I would like the Gulf side better then the Atlantic side. I also want to play a lot of Pool and this was a factor in my decision, because there is plenty of tournaments I can play in...and be close enough to all. The other place I was thinking about and that was Louisiana is good for pool, but I think they get too much rain for me. Thanks again my friends, and starting the task of getting my house to sell and find a place I can afford...maybe in the 50k --90k. Now all I need is for all things to line up for me...

I think Ray Martin lives in Raleigh, NC nowadays.

I've been to Miami a few times and couldn't find a decent table with tight pockets in the whole city.

In Miami there are tight tables at Sharpshooters (table #1 is triple shimmed GC 2 that just got recovered). There are a few tight tables at Doral Billiards. The pool scene in miami is pretty bad though. I wouldnt recommend moving here as a retirement place. Too expensive and we might have the worst pool scene of all the large cities in Florida.

Never heard of sharp shooters and didn't even bother to go to Dorals even though I was very close to it. Don't remember why but it might have been because of the online reviews or something.

I live in the Clearwater/Palm Harbor/Dunedin area! There are lot of places to play around here and lots of fishing. Most places are on 19 but as long as you aren't driving there in rush hour then you'll be fine.

Most places have nice tables with leagues daily and there are always tournaments around.

Not to beat a dead horse but 55+ communities have housing from about 25k - 250K depending on what you want to spend. Quite a few on the Gold Coast too.

I lived in St Pete in 1965 and loved it. Now it seems a little too crowded and touristy for me. I like it in-land where we have easy beach access for the few times a year we are on the coast.

Spend some time looking around. There are all kinds of places for all kinds of prices. I know several people who have been through three or four houses until they found what the really wanted. Don't be too quick to jump. Spend time down here because there are many different life styles depending on what you are looking for, Hell we even have bears in some places, let alone all the other tropical stuff you hear about.

I haven't seen snow in three years and do not miss it in the least. It still tickles me when I hear about the snow stuff back home. I grew up and spent many years in Buffalo, NY so I know about snow. If I never see it again, it would be too soon.

Another one to consider is extended family needs. When you move to FL you all of a sudden have more friends who want to come and stay for awhile.

We are close enough to Disney that our kids try to make it down every year. We like that and have found that the access to lots of things the grandchildren like is a good incentive to get our adult kids here at least once a year.

Having been here a few years I have come to the opinion that people who opt to move to Fl for the life style are a different breed of folks. We are, by and large, more adventurous, less tied to old ways of doing things, and more inclined to get socially involved in lots of different things. I like the way that people here respect your privacy and don't get too nosey about things. There is a real "live and let live" type of culture.

As I said before retirees are not as old down here as they are up north. Heck I am 69 and ride my bike to the pool hall, play baseball, and go swimming nearly every day in the summer. Lots of people like me. People are simply more active and involved. Course most of us are in bed early but we are also up at the crack of dawn to enjoy all that the sunshine brings.

For $25 / month, you play all you want at Corner Pockets in Largo. Many retired folks take advantage of this daily.

Freddie <~~~ not retired but paid the $25 anyway
