Locktite Control Gel

I've been using this for tips for sometime with good success. I have several tips coming off now after a few weeks. I went and got a different batch from a different store with the same results Tips coming off.
Can You point me in a direction to get back on the right road with this problem.

Sanding the back of the tips? Applying pressure while drying? Refacing the ferrule? Probably need to describe your installation process. Do they happen to be popping off of the same type of ferrule material? How long has your bottle been open and how long did you have it stored before you opened it? Food for thought.

It also matters how you are preparing the tips. If the problem is with Mooris it is probably because the glue is soaking in after you sand the backs and not leaving enough glue on the surface. I find Moori are the worst for this. Put one coat of glue on and let it dry for a minute and then put a second coat of glue on.
 
Process

Face off ferrule
Sand back of tip
Glue on both surfaces
Center tip apply pressure
Trip off excess

Problem is with Moori and Kamui

I was using control LocTite gel
Just bought LocTite Ultra Gel

Strange, I've been using Loc Tite Gel on quite a few Super Pro tips that people are using for breaking and not one has come back.

I bring the tailstock up and use a concave center but careful not to apply too much pressure. Just holding the tip in place and don't want to squeeze the glue out.

I use to have problems with Moori tips but I started sanding the back of the tip then apply a couple of drops of super thin glue, let dry, then sand the back of the tip smooth and put glue on both surfaces and use very little pressure with my concave center to hold the tip in place then after a few minutes trim and shape as usaul.
Since using this method I have not had any tips pop off. As blue mentioned the amount of pressure seems to be a main factor. I think that before I was using to much pressue thus squeezing all the glue out.

Sounds like you could also have some bad/old glue. I only use Loctite 454 that I purchase from an aircraft maintainance supplier who as directed on the label, keeps it in a refrigerator until handing it to me. I also keep it refrigerated and never have any problems anymore.

I started coating the the tip back with gel and letting it dry last evening. I am using a concaved center also and I now think I was pressing too hard and pressing too much glue out.

Tips not adhereing

I use Locktite Precision Max or Locktite Professional both with excellent results. They are thin CA which the leather can soak up a bit to create a deeper bond than the gels. The only issue I have is with Cuetec ferules. They seem not to want to respond to CA's. I put on alot of tips with these 2 superglues and I rarely ever have a tip failure. If I do, 9 times out of ten the cue got knocked over and the shock of it hitting the floor fractured the glue line or popped the tip off. Some tips do not glue up very well such as triangles and Kamuis. Some ferules do not glue up well such as cuetec and scorpion, that soft pvc pipe type ferule. But knowing this I glue up and also lock down the tip with pressure.
 
I use Tiger Glue exclusivelly.
I have done dozens and dozens of kamuis, mooris, snipers, phenolic and never had a problem.
A sugestion... Try cleaning the ferrule after being faced of with acetone... Yep aceton... Do that all the time to clean and dry any debris on the ferrule and not one tip came off yet.
 
I use locktite super glue gel. Fr over a decade. No problems ever

where are u putting on your tips. If it's too cold out or too moist the glue will not set up properly and tips will come off. I experienced this problem about 5 years ago when I moved my shop. Look into this if you area isn't climate controlled

The fact that you're having problems with those two particular brands leads me to believe that perhaps you're not using enough gel . Kamui can be a problem if you do not use enough gel to allow for the absorving that happens.
Anyway, something to think about.
