lol I dont want your stinking trophy, lol

Year one of the Derby. Lyle/JR Gay received a trophy or plaque for some accomplishment. He was congratulated by a passer by, then responded "Thanks, but you can't eat a trophy".

I used to run in-house leagues at our local room.
One time I recycled all my old trophies with new name plates and awarded them at the end of the season.

Thats short term thinking. I threw away all my pool stuff years ago in a clean out. I am sorry now. When I was in Europe and was runner up in a big tournament to Ralf Mund. I got 2000 Marks and a nice silver cup for second and just gave the cup to my wife's niece who we were staying with in Germany. I wish I had it now. I even threw away any news clipping or articles on me. When you get older you wish you had that stuff. I wish I had taken more pictures also.

My good friend has won dozens of trophies in multiple games. His move is to keep the engraved plate and give the rest back to a local
one man trophy shop to be reused.
That is a cool idea. I usually toss them. Have been able to give a few to a local who does jr. tournaments. Wish I would have thought about it before I tossed a bunch.

Got a few for winning local bar table tournaments and ended up throwing most away (they were plastic cheapies). I still have the cup and certificate for finishing second in the Regionals at the World Series of Tavern Pool. Richie Florence beat me in the finals and went on to win the whole thing in Vegas. I did win a local tournament in the Philippines about ten years ago that had some pretty decent players in it (I got lucky). First prize was 15,000P (about $300 US) plus a nice trophy. I gave the trophy to my GF at that time. I kind of wish I had kept it now.

The best "trophy" I ever got was for winning the San Francisco Bar Table Championship in the mid 80's. First prize was 1K (I kept all that!) plus a really nice Huebler cue. The guy I was staying with (Rich Flatto) loved that cue (and case) and I ended up giving it to him before I left to head back to L.A.

This is a funny thread for me... I actually bought myself a trophy of sorts after winning only prize money...lol.

It was my first "open" tournament with pros abound. I was the only amatuer left on Sunday (had to wear a tie) and managed a nail biting win (for me at least) over one of my pool idols. I got knocked out in the next round and finished with $400. Rather than piss it away like the rest of the cash that goes through my hands. I opted to buy a watch to remember what was my best performance at that time. Nice el'cheapy Bulova... >20yrs later, I still have it

I once burned over 40 trophies to clean out my garage and later in life wish I had them to give my grandchildren. I have won a few since and display part of them in my shop.

Trophies are about memories for later. I get that you can't eat them but if the only reason you are playing pool is for money, save yourself some grief and get a part time job. In most instances that job will pay you much more money in the long run. I threw away a lot of trophies years ago and wished that I would have kept them. Now, I just store the ones I have now and display a few of the ones that I'm really proud about. At least donate them instead of throwing them away so they can go to someone that appreciates them.

I never played in a lot of Tournaments.
I won a handful of minor local ones thru the years. Got a couple plaques.
The only trophy I have is a small one for winning the base straight pool tournament at ChuLai South Vietnam during the war around 1968.
To say the conditions were primitive would be an over statement.

4 for basketball and badminton. 3 for volleyball. 2 for ping pong and softball. Only 1 for football, bowling, swimming, tennis, racquetball, chess, and pool. (see avitar)

I bought a sweet azz gold/diamond ring with the money I won from a poker league. I don't wear it regularly, but when I see it It brings a smile to my face. If I ever won a significant amount in pool, I'd do the same. Those rings made out of pool balls are cool looking.
