Long Draw Shot

had this shot today and elected to try and draw back. i didnt see any other way to get back up table for the 5-Ball since the shot was perfectly straight in. besides, i wanted to work on my long draw shots so i decided to go with this. anyway, i missed a mile. i wanted to draw back to around Point A but i overcut the shot to around Point B, and the 4-Ball came off the short rail, back up table.

do you posters struggle with this long draw shot? seems like when i have to hit it harder, and put the "Oomph" into the shot, i lose accuracy big time.

p.s. there is no room between the 6 and 7 Balls.

Not my favorite shot either, but I'd have to say, shoot softer, lower, more follow through and with a bit more snap at the end.
 
For me it's not an easy shot from that distance, still working on it.

Shooting shots like this and drawing the cueball back to the tip of my cue, which I leave on the felt and keep it there after the follow thru, it is a great feeling to execute it perfectly. If you find this shot difficult for you, or you are very inconsistent at it, practice it as much as you can. Just do it over and over and over. IMHO this shot is a requirement to be a good player.
 
Not an easy shot for me either. Wouldn't miss the 4 but I wouldn't be able to draw as far as needed. I'm working on that as well.
 
I think the way to improve draw shooting is to use the progressive method.

I was banging around on my table today and came across this shot. Small world.:)
 
Definately a tough shot. Hitting the ball harder always tends to cause decreased accuracy. Try to think of shooting this shoot smoother, not harder, with a longer follow through. Also try a good pause between your backstroke and stroking the cue ball. People (including myself) tend to drop their elbow, move their shoulder forward, and come up from their stance when shooting harder. I would try shooting this shot from a shorter distance with a smooth stroke emphasizing follow through. When you become proficient, back the cue ball up a little, until you can shoot the shot with ease.

In another thread for practice method someone listed a method for draw shots that I've been finding pretty effective. Line up and OB and the CB so that they are directly in line with opposite corner pockets (left pocket of head rail and right pocket of end rail). Use draw and attempt to pocket the OB in it's pocket, and draw the CB into the pocket behind it. You can move the cue ball to any distance from the OB and still try to get the same results. I've been doing this for a week or so and can pocket the OB and CB much more frequently than I could when I started.

1st shot lands between 1 and 2, etc.

People, people, people, people. Those of us that know DCP know that he isn't actually planning on taking anyone's advice if they are actually saying he has to practice a shot.

He wants a "quick fix" for every tough shot or position. He never responds to anyone who suggests he should practice a shot he has trouble.

Just figured I'd let you all know, lest you waste your time with him. :D

for me, to acheive maximum draw, its about aiming low and using a very loose wrist/backhand. I dont know what your mechanics are like, but try letting holding the butt with just a little of your index finger and your middle finger, let the other fingers ride (picture bustamantes back hand). This allows me to really snap the cue thru the ball, and i can easily draw the length of the table without really hitting the ball much harder, im hitting it quicker with some snap.

russ is right, basically dcp likes to come on here and ask questions that he already knows the answers to as well as come on here and whine and seek sympathy here instead of seeking professional help like he should, after 500+ of these posts stevie wonder could see that, i'm sick of the tirades and advice seeking when this guy will never change anything he does, if enough people harrass him he'll either straighten up or stop posting, or better yet everyone could just stop replying to his threads but i doubt this will stop any time soon

When I'm stroking ok (for me anyway) I might actually pull the dam thing behind the nine lol.I don't play like God or Russ...but I can pull one pretty good.

Anyhow.As mentioned,its not harder,just faster..big difference.
Bridge close,bring you BH in and keep the butt as level to the floor as possible.Aim low focusing on a foot or so of follow through.

Hitting it "Harder" often translates into gripping and ripping the shot.Keep the BH lose,but stroke it fast and you must follow though to achieve execution imo.VIOLA...whiteys coming back....how far?Thats in the feel and thats what takes the practice.This shot is not in the practice itself as much as its in the fundementals.Practice it poorly and you will never get it.

Believe it or not...its a helluva harder to tame this shot then it is to learn it.

Lots of chalk, a level stroke, a smooth stroke (don't poke!), and STAY STILL! Set this shot up and take it a few times times, experimenting with how low and hard you can hit the cue ball, and I guarantee you see results in less than 15 minutes.
 
Pretty difficult shot, but one that you must have in your arsenal if you are going to play at a higher level. It doesn't sound like you are capable of practicing shots to get better, so I think that you should take some advice and stop posting these type of threads and go practice.
