Long live Kevin Trudeau-very impressive show

wow..

As you recall from my post, I didn't totally bash the show because it was the first of its kind -- both in terms of the amount of money "on the line" and the intended audience. It's obvious that the intended audience is non pool players and entry-level players, but they talk to them like they're morons. I've never played tennis in my life, but I picked up most of the rules just by watching 1 or 2 sets on TV one day.

At least it is a start. They could have left out the interviews with the so called actors. The problem is the producers of all sports feel that they need to showcase actors. They do it in the playoffs for baseball, basketball, and football. Who cares. I wanted to watch pool. I think if you kept track of the time actual play time shown it was not more than 15 minutes. Hopefully they will realise that there are enough serious pool players that will watch and give them good ratings if they show the match and not try to appeal to the general public. Overall it was what I expected. So I guess I was not disapointed, just frustrated.

The one positive was keeping the same camera angle throughout the shot and getting away from 9 ball.

I was watching some golf at a party with Chinese colleagues a couple of weeks ago.

They had seen quite a bit of golf on the news and in sports shows but still had to ask me how the scoring works.

I think it's a lot like this with the general US public and pool. They do need the most simple thing expalined to them.

The book said he caught on to tennis rules in no more than 15 minutes. But I think most of us have seen so much tennis and golf over the years that we gradually caught on to how things work and learned to follow the game with greater interest.

I find motor sports boring, but I know guys who are extremely passionate about it and can tell you so many details about a race, that makes it interesting to them, that I thought looked like a game of high speed follow the leader.

Heck, as a geologist by university education, my friends and I could spend hours talking about the characteristics of a rock.

The fact is, the masses need to be introduced to the game so that they can begin to get half the enjoyment out of it that we can. From what I can tell about the production it seems to be achieving some of those goals.

For those who fell asleep because they couldn't find the 'What's In in For Me' factor, I feel they are not the people who really are interested in what it will take for this sport to garner popular appeal.

Mike and Kim should have switched roles.

About 10 years ago Mike was doing color for the 9 ball matches, and if I remeber right, he was really good. He is very technical and calls it like he sees it. Sigel should have been in the booth, you definitely would've heard alot more of him then KT.

if mike is in the booth who was lorie suppose to play:confused:

KT & The IPT...

I watched the match...have to say, there was a lot of repitition...but for the audience he is trying to reach and to establish how the IPT will be doing things, a necessary evil I suppose...these are things that I, and I know most AZB'rs know...the Production value I thought was excellent, (lighting, cameras, etc.). Hopefully commentary will improve, and once we see all the players in brackets, competition and excitement will build for the 'Players' community, (ie Us)...and with the $$$ involved I think there are going to be a lot of happy Pool Players on this Tour...heck, we might even see some of those 'Strong' players from the Nations Regional Tours on TV in the near future...

?wait & see?

Nevertheless, Loree Jon Jones is/was not the greatest woman player ever. If it isn't Jean, it is Alison. That is the point, I couldn't really care less about whether or not Jean's feelings were hurt.

I remember her being a very good player. NOT in the
class of Fisher, Corr or Balukas. Maybe Eva Mataya.
It was painful to me watching Sigel taking candy away
from a baby.

i thought the show went real well......i am sure the players enjoyed driving to their bank............

Yep, you would have heard how great he was, how he was "the best on the planet", yada, yada, yada. At times it sounded more like professional wrestling than professional pool.

Other than that, I thought it was done pretty well.

I agree totally with that statement. I had very high hopes for this match. I had been looking forward to it all week. But I'd have to say that, overall, it was extremely disappointing. Didn't they (KT and company) believe that two legends playing 8 ball could entertain the masses? Or did they think they had to have a gimmick? That they had to have a bad guy (Mike Sigel) vs a poor sweet girl (LJJ)? Does sound very WWE to me. Everything was Mike "the mouth" playing the Bobby Riggs role and talking about how men are better players than women.

Even the lead up to the match was silly (IMHO). The "speed pool" match on The Best Damn Sports Show was just dumb. They can't treat two Hall of Fame players like any other professionals they have on the show and interview them? Hell, even Dennis Rodman or Terrell Owens gets treated with that much respect.

In terms of the production value of the actual match, it also had (IMO) a very WWE type feel. They made a big production out of introducing them and handing them their cues. I was waiting for Stone Cold to come out and put "the stunner" on someone. And those stupid interviews. Why? Who cares about Mario Lopez's or Paul Sorvino's pool playing? And why are they interviewing them during the match? I wanted to see the match, and that was made extremely difficult by the fact that they butchered it in the editing room.

All in all, I would have to say that the match left me very frustrated. All I wanted to see was a pool match, not Wrestlemania. They keep saying they want this to be like the PGA. Do you see this type of production for PGA televised events? I really want the IPT to work. But, man, after last night I'm a little worried about the direction they're going.

Remember that marketing is a PROCESS, not an EVENT. One can't sell the whole world in just one bite, it takes many steps in a big journey. Imho, the reason Kevin was repeating himself about things, that we here on AZ know inside and out, is because he is marketing to the general public who want to be entertained. I heard Kevin's remarks as setting the stage by doing a little educating of non-pool players and bangers for future shows.

Hi,
In our American culture,we tend to use superlatives loosely, frequently and many times inappropriately.Besides Mike and Loree ,on many occasions some pros from the past were referred to as world champions when they only won a pro event or a major event in America. They were neither real world championships nor the winners of such tournaments were the world champions.Adjectives used to describe the ranks of Mike& Loree are not far from American tradition.
Have n`t we seen sign boards like these in America:
World`s largest tuneup center
world`s longest hot dog etc,etc,.

The Kevin Trudeau Show

Total and complete crapola!

What a huckster!

Mike Sigel and Loree Jon Jones had a nice payday (and I question there was really 150K involved) and that's it.

.

To me, this is all part of his brilliant marketing strategy.

Kevin decided to have the championship final as the first show of the season, not the last show! To do this, he had to pick the two "finalist" and had them do the "playoff." THEN the "next" season starts with the 150 person tourney later this month.

Most promoters would have done it the other way around and first struggled with promoting and producing a whole year of qualifying tournaments, with a playoff at the end. Kevin started with the playoff and therefore had to artificially create all the excitement he wanted it to have. There was really no other way to promote an event like this, but with language reflecting his intentions for the excitement of next year's final. To seasoned pool players, this seems backwards, but from a marketing standpoint, it was brilliant, imho.

Give this whole thing a chance to develop through a season or two and then tear it a new asshole.
