Not only do you need a large initial investment, you need to maintain your machinery. That costs money. Cue parts also cost money… so does wood, space to store wood, having shop space to work, etc. Or did you think all those things were free?
Last I remember, I did not ask for a free cue...is the next part of the discussion going to be how cues should be priced by state rental price index..?

you would do better to buy a production cue, cheaper and fits your requirements. My base price for a basic cue with pretty good choices of woods and 1 shaft are at the starting point of $600.....as you are not just paying for the materials and time, BUT the expertise in putting it all together into a usable, and great tool for pool! Your request for it to be at the $300 mark is an insult to the cue making world. Hope you understand

Well, Earl Strickland won world and U.S. open championships with what you would refer to as a rubbish cue..

Actually, I dont.I was in contact with a cue maker, who would have made me a cue to my liking for 250$ unfortunately
he does not take custom orders anymore. And a cue maker on the forum offered me one he made for 375$ again unfortunately, I did not like the wood.

So it takes him 1 hour to make the cue..?That boy quick...

And cocobolo would be fine with me, I dont need it to be made of Babe Ruth's baseball bat...
A single 1.5" x 1.5" x 18 square of Cocobolo is $50 and up in today's market..
You really don't know what you are talking about.

This thread reminds me of the guy that walks into the shop and asks to put a 2 dollar tip on they bring with them....
Guy with tip: Do you install tips?
Cuemaker: Sure, you want to wait for it?
Guy with tip: How much?
Cuemaker: $20 if you wait for it...$20 if you leave it.
Guy with tip: But I only paid $2 for the tip!
Cuemaker: You'll have to leave it now you ate up the time slot I had to install it with all your questions.
Guy with tip: Turns and grumbles under his breath as he walks out...But I only paid $2 for the tip. It shouldn't cost more than that to install it.

Go to a bar you rarely frequent and borrow the nicest house cue you can find and take it your local cue maker and have them cut it in two and put a pin in it. pick out your favorite tip and get him to put that on as well. You should end up with some change.
kidding aside it all boils down to someone's time, if a cuemaker is any good they have invested lots of time and money into being able to build a decent product. It is unrealistic to think they would value their time so little as to be able to build you a cue for that price. If that is your budget than your best bet is a cheaper Chinese production cue.

Ed Robinson would have made me a cue to my requirements for 250$ but he's not taken custom orders anymore.

You were saying..?

I understand and of course you are free to value your work as you as see fit but that does not mean someone else will value theirs at less, in fact
