Looking for a cue under 100$

I'd get the implex joint, but it's really a personal preference. I thing the HXT cues are the best value in cues right now.

About the HXT shafts, I bought a HXT cue for my son, he loves it, it has a very nice Kamui Soft tip on it, which on it's own is over $20 not even counting installation.

2 of my friends that play with pricy sticks hit with it and liked it, I have a HXT shaft coming in today that I bought to use with my $1,000 custom that came with 3 shafts, that's how much I liked the hit on the HXT shaft.

Dale Perry is also a good pick, will get you a much more prestige cue for cheap money.

The HXT series by Players has grabbed my attention because of it's low deflection shaft, a feature I have yet to see on any other cue within my price range. After doing some research on the shaft itself, it seems to be pretty decent.

I've narrowed it down to the HXT15 and the HXT30 (if you all would be kind enough to just google them, because I can't supply links until I have 5 posts)

The only difference I can see between the two is the joint. The HXT15 has a stainless steel joint, while the HXT30 has an implex joint. I'm not sure on which would be better? also between the two, what do you all think is the nicer color choice? lol I like them both.

Anyone else think this a good choice for within a 100$ ? or a suggestion on another option?

Thanks for the tips so far!

Look on Ebay or in the classifieds here for a McDermott. Some of the 6 point SW style import cues are decent too that I have seen, I have owned some from Kaiser and they played okay.

best bet would be players cues in the 50.-100. range.

valhalla is made "by" viking cues

star and lucky by mcdermott cues are a good choice in the sub 50. range. I have two of their cues for people at my house and the quality is better than any walmart or store bought cue.

edit: scorpion cues and cuetec will have fiberglass shafts

I second these suggestions.

I realy dont see how you could beat the players HXT. Low deflection shaft good feel for a cheap cue. You could almost just stamp Lucasi on it and sell it for $250 just because of the name.

Go over to the Wanted/For Sale forum and make a thread asking what cues people have available for $100. You will probably be pleasently surprised what people have.

Might be made in the same factory...or at least the same country.

they are made in the same factory in China.
Players cues are made by 12 year olds
Lucasi cues are made by 16 year olds
So the players cues are cheaper because they are made by rookie cue makers.

Is this also the same factory with cues labeled Predator?

Slaya -

Older two-piece Dufferin cues in very good to excellent condition are available on Craigslist nationwide for $20 and up plus shipping. Install a tip of your choice, and you will have a tough time finding a better playing cue.

If you find something that appeals to you more later on, sell or give your Dufferin to another up and coming player.

Go to a few pawn shops. They might have a really nice old cue that could be fixed up to play killer for around $100 total.

Good advice. I picked up an old McDermott D-2 for $100 with McDerrmott (Porprt) 1X1 case for $100. Planned on using it for a trunk cue. My wife played with it...I had to find another trunk cue.

Hi Hang - I was also going to get one or two HXT shafts for my cues - who did you get yours from? Will you have to take it to a cue maker to get it matched up to your cue? Thanks!

Seyberts, a custom diameter was $35 to get mine down to 12.5mm
I won't get the rings matched, it came with a black collar that matched the diameter of my cue pretty well and did not look out of place. But if you want that, you will have to get a guy to match it for you.

I 2nd the Schmelke cues. Billiard Warehouse has a line of the Schmelke sneaky petes that sell in the $95-100 range that are great hitting cues for the money.

YEP !!! Not really sure how anyone with a hundo in their pocket buys antthing but a schmelek... quality cues, and great folks to deal with and made in the USA. What is not to like. I think your search is over....

Great...just keep going to the big box stores and put all the small dealers out of business....

Players all the way

First cue I ever bought was a rose wood sneaky pete by players. Held up for a long time but warped when I left it in my car by accident one cold winter night. Too bad I bought it a year before Players came out with the life long warranty.....sigh. Pretty much all the Players cues I ever used were all great for the price and not a bad entry level cue.

Dude,, bigbox stores ?? Really ?? wtf you talking about. You can buy directly from Schmelke, or go to just about any internet store and buy a schmekle cue, or go to quite a few pool rooms and buy a schmekle. Who is being put out of business by buying a schmelke cue ??
